23 Things I’ve Learned In 23 Years

It’s been so, so, soooo long since I last blogged – it’s September already and there’s only 16 weeks until christmas (how crazy is that!)

Although I’ve been away for the majority of August, there has been good reason for it – It was my birthday month and boy did I enjoyyyy… I was insanely spoilt so i’ll be sure to share soon.

But, more recently I’ve been in reflective mood, enjoying the people around me, and the experiences/ lifestyle I’ve been fortunate enough to have, which is why I think actually noting down 23 life lessons – one for every year I’ve been alive – will help me remember what’s actually important in life, and perhaps help younger females out there that come across this post somehow.

23 things I’ve learned in 23 years (in no particular order):

  1. Failure is necessary. I think everyone says this, but no one knows why failure is actually necessary. When I was younger, I was quiet academic, always on the straight and narrow and never really felt any failure or rejection until I finished uni. I searched for nearly a year with many #FAILS in the process but it was so necessary because it made me work harder and really appreciate what I did get.
  2. Scrutiny is necessary. Just like failure, you need to experience scrutiny as well as constrictive criticism to move forward and better yourself.
  3. Learn to live below your means. This point has never been more relevant in my life, especially when things like buying my own house and getting a better car become more of a priority, it’s never been more important to save, even if it’s just a little every month, in order for me invest in things that matter in the grand scheme of things.
  4. Buy experiences, not things. When you work and you can afford to buy things yourself, you soon realise, experiencing things and travelling takes precedent over owning the latest pair of trainers. After all memories last a lifetime.
  5. Avoid trends. As far as I’m concerned trends are a waste of time and money. I have learned to invest in things that I genuinely like.
  6. Not everyone will be there for you. When you go through real tests in your life you realise who’s actually there for you, and who makes time to check up on you. Sometimes it’s a harsh but necessary wake up call on who you need to cut #CutIt
  7. Keep your head up. As a black female, especially over the last year with all the madness happening throughout the world, I’ve learned how important it is to keep my shoulders back and head up, no matter if I’ve got an unusual hairstyle, rocking an au natural face or weird ensemble.
  8. Do what you want. Life is way to short. Don’t worry what other people will think, as long as you’re safe and responsible, live life and do what you want #YOLO (what happened to that yolo)
  9. Speak up! Never shy away from voicing what you actually believe in, no matter how daunting – the feeling of keeping quiet is more disappointing when you look back.
  10. Never accept bad treatment.
  11. Love yourself.
  12. Consistency is key. I think I’ve mentioned this in a previous post before, but being consistent will help you get to where you want to be quicker. Whether it’s in blogging or at the gym – keep at it.
  13. Be a ‘Goal Digger’ – If you been on my insta, I recently posted this quote with a somewhat motivational message. Don’t rely on anyone else to gain success, be a goal digger and get’cho goals!
  14. You are a queen. #MelaninGoddess
  15. Hustle Hard. No one will hand you what you think you deserve, so hustle… HARD!
  16. You can always rely on family. I know this may not be completely true for everyone as every family is different, but I’m sure everyone has at least one person that’s so close they’re practically family whom you can rely on. Having a ride or die is the best.
  17. The world is not fair. Point blank, but what are you doing to make it better?
  18. Look after your relationships. Whether romantic, family or a friendship, look after the relationships that are important to you. Relationships are so fragile and it’s so common that if you get into a romantic relationship, your friendships can take a back seat, but it really doesn’t have to be either or – just be better at time management and care about those close to you.
  19. Parents are always right. A lot of mistakes I’ve made could have all been avoided if only I had listened to my parents. They can be annoying at times, but they are usually right – parent’s intuition and experience is a crazy thing.
  20. Live in the moment. (see no.8)
  21. Keep your circle tight. Not everyone is your friend. There have been so many people that I thought were for me, only to find them bitch about me, take ideas and pass them as their own and everything else, so keep your circle tight.
  22. Keep moving forward. Never become stagnant, no matter how hard life gets, as long as you’re still breathing (Have you seen the Revenant?) you can keep going.
  23. Life’s too short to be unhappy. Stuck in a dead end job? Have a lifelong dream of working for yourself? Want to travel the world? Whatever it is that you think will truly make you happy – do everything in your power to achieve it, even when fear tries to hold you back. You don’t want to look back and regret staying put.

So, there are my pearls of wisdom, hope you enjoyed and make sure to stay tuned for my next post all about my trip to Dubai!

Advice for my Undergrad Self

Hey guys!

It’s a new week and I’m back with a slightly different post.

With exam results day nearing in the UK for high school and college students, and many of my close friends having graduated- it got me thinking back to when I was going through it all myself.

I wanted do a post about the most important purchases and advice for prospective undergrads. I was inspired by Casper, a company that makes cool memory foam mattresses, and while I have not had to buy a new mattress, I thought this would be a fun post, as well as a great chance to reflect, so here goes…

Top Purchases

From a young age, I was always excited to move out my parents house and start living for myself – sometimes I really have to ask myself why I was so excited to grow up so quickly smh. With this is mind, I decided to pick the furthest university I could and moved to Lincolnshire *yikes*

I was so ecstatic to have a place of my own (more like a room of my own), and dreamt of doing up my room and all that stuff, but when I actually arrived in my dorm, it was reminiscent of a prison cell (bare in mind I’ve never been to prison lol).

Looking back I would get these things for myself;
-Pillows, loads of pillows! They can transform a dreary room into a homely haven in an instant.
– Nice soft bedsheets. As they say there’s nothing more satisfying then going to bed after a hard day at uni in fresh sheets
– A rug. It’s amazing what a nice rug can do for a room
– Posters/Pictures. Banish homesickness with familiarity, seeing friendly faces, despite being miles away always helps.
– Plants! A nice way to breathe life into a small room
– Fairy Lights.
– Plates, cups and mugs. For all those cheap student meals!
– Full length mirror. For all those #OOTD selfies for Instagram

These little things really made a difference to my room, and while it may not seem like a lot, they can make your room feel like a home away from home – especially if you live in dorms! It’s horrible when your housemates destroy the kitchen, but it’s nice to know that you can always escape to a clean room.

Also, once you’ve finished, you can always take these back home with you and save for when you’re ready to move into your very own apartment!

Things I’ve Learned

After spending 3 years studying in Lincoln, I learned a few things…

– It’s OK to be yourself. As much as you may want to fit in with the cool kids in the dorm, authenticity, never goes out of style. You’ll thank yourself  for remaining true to yourself later in life.
– Work hard, party harder. As much as I used to pretend that I was doing the ‘right’ thing and studying my socks off, university is a social playing ground, so play the field, just remember to pass your modules.
– Just go for it! You’re independent.
– Your housemates will get on your nerves but you WILL look back and class your university years as the ‘good old days’
– When graduation day comes, you’ll realise it was ALL worth it

Life Advice

Once you’ve graduated from university, you’d have learnt a lot of things you’ll carry with you forever…

– Experience is everything. After graduation, you’re officially a graduate and you’ll likely be looking for a job. Hopefully throughout university, you’d have completed placements and internships. The more experience you get in education, the more likely you’ll land your ‘dream’ job
– No one will hand you anything. Being proactive is everything. If you’ve got a passion you want to turn into a career, do everything in your power to make it happen yourself.
– Stay on track. Nothing worth having comes easy. It’s all about time and pressure (peep the shawshank reference lol) so keep doing you boo.

Do you have any undergraduate advice for yourself or others?

Monthly Favourites: JULY

Why is the year moving so quickly? Am I the only one feeling that if I blink twice it’ll be Christmas?

With that being said, let’s not waste any time and jump straight into my July favourites!

Throughout the month of July, I’ve been loving a mixture of things, I didn’t really overly indulge this month but, when I find something I love, I will use it to its death, so the first thing on my list has to be…

1.Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil

Since purchasing the Benefit brow in late June (have you read my review yet?), the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil, has been my go-to eyebrow pencil! I absolutely love it. I would go as far to say that’s it the best eyebrow pencil I’ve ever bought and there have been many!👀 😅

ben4

It just gives me the perfect brow every time, with its thin, precise tip and creamy formula, and I totally prefer it to Benefits Goof Proof Pencil.

The packaging is absolutely lush too. The only thing I would say, is that it needs to have more product *sobs into tissue* as mine ran out yesterday 😭

2. Spotify 🎧

I’ve been signed up to spotify for about a year now, but it’s only since I started driving to work (I spend about 10 hours a week in my car), that I’ve fully appreciated this app on my phone – it has every song possible -EXCEPT Statik Selektah Look of Love – like –  where can I track down this bomb ass playlist? If you know, let me know, cos I need it my life!

These are my fave playlists at the moment.

july2

I have to listen to something gangsta in the morning, then on the way home, maybe some chilled vibes with the soul queen – Jill Scott.

What playlists would you recommend on spotify?

3. Topshop sandals

I wasn’t meant to actually buy sandals but, as I’m such a clever clogs and decided to wear wedges into London (I mean, who actually does that) for the Blogger Hangout event my feet needed some comfort, as they were burning from all the walking, so I stopped in Topshop and found these.

july7

No word of a lie, these are THE best sandals I have ever bought. Genuine leather sandals for £28… it’s a bloody bargain! You know when you normally get a pair of shoes and you have to break them in, yeah… I didn’t have to do that with these.

As you can see from their sorry state, I practically live in them – I really should invest in another pair, but I love the simplicity of the design and the fact that they wrap around the ankle-which is kind of ‘in’ at the moment.

4. Pandora Sykes

I read a lot of blogs but if you’ve never heard of Pandora Sykes, please get to know. Her writing style is just amazing and in all honesty she possesses a writing style I would love to have. She discusses some great topics on her blog, and her sense of style is just ugghhhh 🙌 – check out her blog!

5. everydayisblackfriday.co.uk

Screen Shot 2016-08-03 at 22.58.31

I cannot remember the last time I bought something online, without searching for a discount code.

Call me cheap, but, there really are too many savings to be had!

Everydayisblackfriday.co.uk is a website that works slightly differently. It tracks down the best deals and discount codes for you, so all you have to do is search for the item you want and buy it at a discounted rate.

They’ve got so many brands on their website, that it’s really is worth checking here first, to see if you can get it cheaper, than buying straight from the source.

As I shop a lot at ASOS, I really loved that everydayisblackfriday.co.uk post when there are discount codes that can be used on ASOS too – so f you’re like me and always looking for a good bargain, make sure you bookmark this page!

6. Harry Potter

Eeek! This is where my inner nerd comes out! 👓 ⚡️

Harry Potter came out this month, how could this not be one of my faves?

july4

Anyone else finished the book?

7. Tea Tree Treats

july

If you follow me on twitter, you may have seen me tweet about my enlarged pores -such a nuisance. But after watching Tasha Green rave about her Tea Tree oil, I thought I’d hit up The Body Shop and treat myself.

I initially only wanted the Tea Tree Oil which was £12, but I then saw a deal with a bundle of Tea Tree Oil products for £20 so obviously went for that.

july1

I love that the products deep clean pores and leave my skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed with a light tingle – am I the only one who likes this sensation?

I’ve always reacted well towards Tea Tree oil so, I’m exciting to start using these long term to see how my skin improves, but already, I’ve seen my pores reduce in size, which is always a good thing!

So, there you have it, my July favourites! Have you got anything you would absolutely recommend trying?

See you on my next post x

Jurlique Jewels

Hiya Queens,

It’s been way too long since my last post, but during my time off (time away from blogging, life still went full steam ahead) I had the chance to fully immerse myself in a few treats the lavly people from Jurlique were kind enough to send me a few weeks ago.

J7

J8

J6

As you may already know, I was introduced to Jurlique at my first ever blogging event! Since then, I have been obsessed with their Rosewater Balancing face mist and really been preeing their website for some more products to try.

A few things have been running low in my everyday makeup bag, so I was so pleased that the people at Jurlique sent over some provisions.

As a women that’s unashamedly beauty obsessed, I’m always on the hunt for a great finishing powder. If you have oily skin, you know the struggle is real outchea. So, when I saw Jurlique’s new finishing powder in town, I had to snap that baby up.

J3

I’ve never really had any great luck with finding a good finishing powder, so I was excited to try this one, especially as it’s translucent, meaning it doesn’t add any more coverage- could it be my beauty saving grace?

My first impression of Rose Silk Finishing Powder (£26) was that it was quite affordable and chic. A little bit chunky to fit into my daily makeup bag, but it’s perfect for popping into my daily handbag instead. The compact was a decent size, had a nice sized mirror in the lid and came with a handy powder puff (not something I use, but, I’m sure is handy to others).

J4

J5

Once opened, the powder can be found under the puff, all you have to do is tilt the product compact for product to come out. To be honest, I don’t like this design, as it’s too messy and white powder just ends up everywhere.

The powder itself, feels quite chalky, with the same texture as talcum powder. However, once applied to a brush, and the excess is tapped off, the powder instantly mattifies your makeup, without looking insanely dry and 2D.

J9

The last couple weeks of July have been ridiculously hot, to the point where I’ve literally been melting like a MF, but this powder has really kept my makeup on point reducing my shine. After one application in the morning, this powder keeps my makeup in place, of course my makeup does get a bit shiny as the course of the day goes on, but, reduces it so my makeup doesn’t have a nasty un-intentional dewy glow after an hour.

After using this for a couple of weeks, I’ve been loving the way it finishes my makeup, as I know I can confidently go throughout the day without a touch up. If you’re thinking of picking this product up for yourself, one thing to bare in mind, is that it can make your makeup look cakey. I would advise applying ONE thin, even layer to finish your makeup, and avoid touch ups, which can leave you looking greyish and overly matte.

Overall, this product has become a staple in my daily makeup routine, and its smell of rose is just everything!

Jurlique were also kind enough to send over two other products, their; Exfoliating Hand Treatment (£20) and Nail & Cuticle Treatment Oil (£12).

J1

I am ashamed to admit that I suffer from dry hands, it’s just not a cute look and unfortunately for me, my tub of Lush’s Helping Hand hand cream which keeps my hands supple and moisturised (this product is a gift sent from god, real talk), ran out.

There seriously is no substitute for that hand cream, as it lasted me 3 months, which is incredible as I use hand cream about 20 times a day lol. But as it ran out I was intrigued to try Jurlique’s Exfoliating Hand Treatment to give my dry hands some TLC.

j10

J11

Now that i’m a lady of leisure…. well kind of  I try to use the treatment at least once a week – I smother my hands in the exfloiant, leave it on for 20 mins and then wash off with warm water. I wouldn’t say it works miracles, however, it does help to add moisture back into my skin, and really helps to keep them smooth. Plus, it’s a quite nice step to add into your pamper routine.

J2

Lastly, I was gifted the Nail & Cuticle Treatment Oil, which is what I use on my nails after the exfoliating treatment. It smells divine, and little goes a long way. Since I’ve started treating myself to shellac manicures, it’s nice to keep my nails strong as shellac can be damaging while also keeping my cuticles pretty and moisturised.

J12

On the whole, I’m enjoying my cute Jurlique package, and can’t thank the team enough!

If you’re on the hunt for beauty treats, check out Jurlique if you haven’t already and let me know what you think.

See you on my next one x

My Beach & Swimwear Wishlist

This week is set to be hot, hot, HOT and with my second holiday of the year fast approaching my mind has been on buying the perfect pieces of sexy beach and swimwear.

When it comes to holidaying abroad, I love re-inventing my style, as it gives me a chance to really experiment with things I already have in my wardrobe as well as choose things that I wouldn’t normally get to wear in the UK.  However, I would say my downfall is definitely beach and swimwear – I mean who doesn’t want to look 💯 sipping on a cocktail next to the pool or sunbathing on the beach?

As I’m sure you all can agree, when going away things can get a little out of hand, especially when shopping for clothes – things can quickly start to add up, which is why I’m so excited to share – Lovethesales.com with you!

I recently found about about lovethesales.com and I’m so surprised I hadn’t heard of it earlier. If you love designer brands, they have plenty of favourites like Missguided, Ted Baker, Converse, DKNY, All Saints and so much more with heavy discounts – it’s actually crazy!

So of course, I had to peep any deals I could get for my holiday! I love expensive looking swimwear, what can I say I have expensive taste 😩

Lovethesales.com, have a great selection of swimwear for all body types, plus cool kaftans for when you’re simply lounging around, at great price points.

I tend to always go for bright colours and prints as they go great against my skin once I’ve caught the sun, but I do love packing a good mixture all-in-one swimsuits and bikini’s so take a peek at my wish list…

Which piece do you think I should treat myself to?

If you’re off on a summer getaway, I highly suggest checking this site out, and maybe even treating yourself to a little luxury for less – my purchases are currently pending!

See you on my next one x

Brow Game Strong with Benefit

This is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how…my brow game is now strong with Benefit *dab*

bene event
Precisely My Brow Pencil used on my brows for Not On The High Street Christmas in July event

So, last week I went to the Bloggers Hangout event and in the midst of doing my makeup my MAC eyebrow pencil ran out. FFS! Such convenient timing ey!

Has this ever happened to you before? I was literally in a state of panic, how could I go to an event with one eyebrow?! The search began for anything else that could possibly fill in my right brow.

After rummage around my makeup stash, I was sweating my already done makeup off, but I  found an alternative – my brow zing palette from Benefit. Hallelujah! I used to use this brow palette years ago, when bold brows started to become a thing, but kinda just discovered other things. I remembered I really liked it as it was so easy to use and I liked that it had both a wax and a powder.

Each brow looked slightly different, but I finished off, sealed my right brow with some hope and concealer and left for the event.

While I was out I knew that I needed another pencil, but of course there wasn’t a MAC store in sight, so I settled on Superdrug where I found a really good eyebrow pencil by L’oreal. I would have never thought to try such a product but I was actually surprised at how good the quality was, plus had a wax pencil on the other end and it was only £5 so I couldn’t go wrong. Or so I thought (btw. I am getting to the Benefit products lol)

I used the pencil about three times, before I had to sharpen it (why isn’t every eyebrow pencil self-sharpening?) When I started sharpening it, I didn’t stop, the pencil kept breaking. I literally had nothing left. Luckily the same day, ASOS (good ole asos) sent me a 20% discount code, and long story short I treated myself to a few Benefit products.

I don’t actually know why I stopped using the Brow Zing eyebrow palette, but this new Benefit eyebrow range has got me hooked again. They just do the most with their packaging and after reading plenty of reviews I decided to take the plunge.

I was a bit dubious with ordering an eyebrow pencil online as I didn’t know what colour to get- there are currently six shades to choose from, but after going back and forth for about an hour I chose- Dark 5 – which was a the perfect shade for me – Not too dark and not too ashy.

ben2

I ended up buying 3 cool brow products: Precisely My Brow Pencil, Goof Proof Brow Pencil and Ready Set Brow.

Once they arrived I so excited to open them up. Isn’t the packaging EVERYTHING? I love that they make creating the perfect brow a magical experience through the packaging alone.

ben3

ben4

ben5

Once taken out of the cardboard packaging I was left even more thrilled. The products just looked so pretty and sassy with its sleek silver finish – It left me wanting to do my eyebrows lol.

So far I’ve been really impressed with the quality of each product, although, I’ve never been disappointed with Benefit. My favourite product has to be Precisely My Brow Pencil, which was actually described as a pen on ASOS. I thought I’d prefer the Goof Proof Pencil but this one has a much smaller tip, that lets you create a precise brow shape. I’m so heavy handed so it suits me well as I initially used the Goof Proof, but when I too a step back from the mirror my brows looked way too bold.

ben7

After playing around with the two pencils, I would definitely say that the Precisely My Brow Pencil is my new go-to simply because I cant get too carried away with it, plus I think if you’re like me and still get your brows done, it will accentuate the shape more naturally.

benefit brows
Using Precisely My Brow Pencil

However, I would say the Goof Proof Brow Pencil is really nice to use as it has a angled tip, perfect for adding a sharp arch or a fluid curve to the brow. This pencil would be great for me if I’m going out and want to make a strong statement with a cool eye makeup look.

ben6

I also feel that the quality of the pencils are so much better for my skin than MAC’s eyebrow pencil. As I’ve got oily skin I feel MAC’s eyebrow pencils creamy consistency makes my eyebrows look shiny. However, although Benefits pencils have a nice consistency which allows them to glide over your brows easily, and when set with the Ready Set Brow gel it lasts all day, without smudging of sliding (even in hot weather)

I’ve never thought to use a brow gel, but after using the Ready Set Brow, I’ve seen the light. The gel is easily and neatly applied using a comb and once applied doesn’t go hard when it dries, which has always been a thought that’s turned me off.

Each pencil was around £18 on ASOS, which is quite steep, especially as MAC’s pencils can be bought for £15, but they can be bought at a cheaper price at QVC. Saying this I feel you get more for your money, as the pencil seems to be longer and you get a spooky at the end of them too – how thoughtful!

If you’re looking for a brow alternative, or wan a give the new Benefit brow range a go, I would highly recommend. Think of it as an investment in your brows lol.

Have you tried this range? What are your thoughts?

The Blogger Summer Hangout

Last Saturday I went to my second bloggers hangout event and this time it was even more special than the last – The Bloggers Hangout were celebrating their 3rd birthday – so as you can imagine I was so excited to see what they had in store for us!

What I love most about these events is meeting bloggers that I talk to on Twitter, it just makes the blogging thing seem a little more real lol.

Anyway, Laura from LauraLivingLife and I headed to the venue held in a small gallery in Charing Cross. We could spot it a mile off… bloggers, nice vibes, plus with the weather being so nice and London Pride taking place, it was definitely looking to be a chilled and friendly atmosphere.

Once we got in we were greeted with so many brands, a little overwhelmed (and flushed) we decided to start from downstairs and work our way up.

The first thing we set our eyes on was food… more specifically sweets!

BHS

Oh Crumbs! offered a range of lovely marshmallows, that I literally wolfed down as I was feeling a bit heady from the night before (why do i do this to myself?)

Next was Pink Parcel. I’ve heard of this brand before, but never really known what it offered, except the obvious (a monthly subscription that comes in time for your monthly period), however, it’s so much more than what it says on the tin… or the parcel 😎

BHS5

Pink Parcel gives us ladies a chance to indulge and somewhat enjoy our monthly cycles, with cool treats that they put inside each box. Each parcel contains tea to help with cramps, a sweet treat to indulge in when the cravings come, a range of beauty products and of course pads and tampons.

Pink Parcel, also gave us the chance to make our own personalised box too – check mine out!

BHS2

BHS3

BHS4

pink parcel

That was it for downstairs, so we made our way all the way up (if you know, you know!)

Regenerate greeted us first and honestly was the brand I was most pleased about coming into contact with.

BHS7

When I was younger I was obsessed with my teeth, I just wanted them to be straight and clean, which is why I longed for braces and brushed them 3 times a day (I was such a nerd). Now, I know it probably wasn’t the most sensible thing to do, as too much brushing can wear away enamel, promoting sensitivity, which is something I suffer with now.

Luckily for me Regenerate is a toothpaste that repairs enamel, reversing damaging effects.

Sold in Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Boots and many more beauty retailers I knew the was a brand I could trust (as well as doing my own research).

Regenerate was kind enough to give us two treats – one Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste & an Enamel Science Boosting Serum Kit, which should be used one a month.

I’ve only used the toothpaste once so far, so cannot give a in depth review, but I’m pleased with how it left me feeling so far… have you tried these products?

regenerate

The venue was boiling and my makeup was literally sliding off my face, so I was parched. Luckily there was a cool drinks brand called Cocktail Mania, serving alcoholic slushies (not that I needed anymore alcohol) – let me tell you their Mango Crazy was lush – check them out, they’re based in Old Kent Road and do everything from slushies to milkshakes, looking to be a great summer hangout spot!

BHS8

Mingling in a bit further, I found the cutest store – Sass and Belle. I must be the only person who has never heard of this brand before, but it’s right up my street. They sell ‘the little things in life’ – cups, frames, notebooks..just those little pretty things, you and I could never say no to. Plus they have a store in Clapham Common which is literally 30 mins away – they can add another customer to their fan base!

BHS9

sass

The Blogger Hangout Summer event/ 3rd birthday was a blast, and I had a good time with my girl laura even though I was hanging and my feet were burning lol – who told me to wear heels?!

I also had the chance to meet a few super cool chick bloggers so shout out to –@yasminegonzalez & @Sabahscloset  love your blogs girls x

If you went to The Bloggers Hangout, let me know how you found it, and your most favourite brand discovery x

10 Things To Expect When You Travel

Hi again lovelies,

Can you believe we’ve started the second half of the year already? FFS… and still no sun – drop me out and take me on holiday already! 😖 😫

It’s already been over 2 weeks since I landed back in the UK after my lovely little getaway to Thailand and to celebrate / mourn a wonderful time away in the sun, I thought I’d do a ‘fun’ post about what 10 things I experienced as a tourist and world traveller.

  1. STARING – This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves. Just so rude, yet so inevitable, especially when you travel anywhere outside of London. Whenever I travel abroad I get look, whether it be because of my black skin or my ‘unusual’ hair, I’ll get the polite stare – the one where they smile and stop one I’ve acknowledged it, or the more annoyingly – yes, I am staring at you because you are hella different and I don’t know how to take you -stare. Either way it grinds my gears.
  2. PAPARAZZI– Yes, I’ve been stalked my paparazzi… and by paparazzi I mean Chinese tourists following me to get the perfect shot. To be fair this has only happened to me in Thailand, but, it was very weird, to say the least. I’m almost positive you’ll see a meme of me on Instagram soon with a couple of Chinese people.
  3. BONJOUR – Is it me, or can a black person on holiday not be British?! No one ever thinks my boyfriend and I are British. We, do however, get spoken to in French or more understandably – American accents. Very bizarre.
  4. THE DREADED CHAT UP– I’ve travelled alone before, which has just given men the reason to try and woo me. How lucky am I 😒? Yeah I know I have nice lips thanks, anything else?

What has been the worst chat up line you’ve received on holiday?

  5. OVER PACKING – Ughh can us ladies ever get it right? For some reason, every time I go away, I have the most bags and the biggest suitcase, yet never wear more than half of what I pack. Nothing seems too short when you’re modelling it in front of the mirror #firstworldproblems
  6. MAKEUP – After deciding what the best CC, BB or DD cream to pack you’ll need another holiday. As much as I hate to admit it, is there any point of makeup on holiday?
  7. ‘TAXI?’ –  If you’ve been to Thailand then you must’ve experienced getting this question on every corner. When I travel, I love to explore and just submerge myself in the whole experience. I know this isn’t how everyone likes to do things, but I’ve got two legs for a reason – ditch the taxi, let’s walk!
  8. The Sh@!*– Never have I ever caught the shits like when I went to Thailand. If you’re going abroad this summer, make sure you take a pack of Imodium and paracetamol, you won’t regret it.
  9. ‘YOUR SKIN IS SO BEAUTIFUL!’ – It may sound big headed but I get this a LOT – kinda like my hair. Followed by a soft stroke of my skin. It’s quite flattering to be honest.
  10. THE OTHER COUPLE – I havent quite decided if I like making couple friends abroad or not, it’s quite a commitment, to make, what happens if you want to break free? Too much hassle, I’ll just stick to the boyf.

This post brought back way too many memories lol. There’s so many more experiences that I haven’t even touched on, but you get the idea. Have you experienced any of these, or any others, I would love to know your travel experiences, so let me know!

Tartelette 2 In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette Review

Recently I’ve taken a back seat with new beauty products on the scene, I am seriously lost with what products I should be buying and what products I need to leave on the shelf, but one product I treated myself to a few weeks go is the Tartelette 2 In Bloom palette and it is one that I am seriously impressed with.

T4

Let me start by saying – My name is Rianne, and I am a beauty hoarder. Honestly, I have about 3 drawers filled to the brim with beauty products that I have never used, but have bought because they look pretty in the packaging (I really ought to go through them and see what gems I can find).

I thought it was time to treat myself to some new eye shadows as I had been using my MAC Burgundy x9 eyeshadow palette to death – to be honest it’s one of the best palettes I’ve ever bought, but it was time to find something else, that was just as good, after all there’s only so many colour combos you can come up with 9 shadows.

I am a sucker for bronze/neutral shades, so when I heard about the Tarte palette I was sold. This luxurious palette comes with 12 beautiful shades, but let me start with the packaging – every girl’s kryptonite.

Tarte got it so right with the packaging of this palette. As you can see it’s super ‘girly’ covered in a floral print which is fitting as it is called ‘In Bloom’. The palette comes in a shiny cardboard packaging, and once opened it reveals the smooth, hard gold casing the same floral print on top. Absolutely beautiful!

Open it up and you are greeted with a huge mirror. I feel that all eye shadow palettes should come with a mirror – it should just be part and parcel, because when you’re on the go it makes things so much easier – plus it really adds to its luxuriousness.

Directly underneath the mirror is the jackpot. 12 NEW and undeniably beautiful hues, 9 matte shades, perfect for creating a day to day look, great for work, plus 3 shimmery lustrous shadows that can effortlessly turn any look into a more glamorous one, perfect for a night time soiree.

Colours from right to left: Firecracker, Rocker, Leader, Rebel

My most used and favourite colours are the ones swatched, how beautiful are they?

The shadows in this Tarte palette are so dense and a little goes a long way, the colours are so pigmented and blend so well, especially when applied with Tartes double-ended eyeshadow brush (I swear by this brush), which disperses the product easily, evenly and with minimum effort for a sleek look that lasts longer and allows you to precisely place product for a symmetrical look.

Each shadow is made with Amazonian clay – ‘a nutrient rich clay is extracted from the banks of the Amazon River where the nutrients are at their highest concentration. As nature’s most perfect ingredient, this multitasking and total skin balancing clay has been known to remove surface oil and mattify skin, nourish all skin types and give skin an overall smooth and even appearance.  Can we just take a moment to appreciate the pigments of these eyeshadows.’

I am seriously in love with this palette and impressed with how much I use it. The colours are insanely dense and pigmented and I love that these colours can also be used with MAC’s x9 palette. I bought this from QVC (which shouldn’t be slept on if you’re looking for American branded beauty at affordable prices) for £35 which is a little pricey, but you definitely get your moneys worth.

Have you tried this palette, what are you first impressions?

5 Hair Products I’m Loving

Hello blogging world, I cant believe it’s been two weeks since my last post *sobs into tissue* – what can I say, life has just got in the way, but, in my time away a lot has happened, one of them being… I am no longer a red head, or more accurately a russet head lol *sobs even more*

I finally took the plunge and dyed my hair chocolate brown. I was scared, but it was long overdue. Being a red head was a stressful time in my life – just take a read of my hair disaster!

No, but in all honesty there was a lot of upkeep that my hair just couldn’t handle, so I decided it was time to go a bit darker and it’s the best decision I could have made, my mum’s immediate reaction was ‘your hair looks so healthy!’ – I don’t think there could have been a clearer sign that I should have went darker a lot sooner.

After making the conscious decision not to go to the hairdressers last year (after my hair mishap) I’ve been loving the freedom I’ve had with experimenting with my locs and exploring new products that have made a real difference in the quality of my hair, so I thought I’d share the hair products I’ve been loving and continually reaching for…

Monoi Oil is a miracle in a tub… I have high porosity hair, meaning it absorbs water and products quickly, but loses moisture just as quickly and this oil has been the perfect answer for me. Monoi Oil is a leave in conditioning creme and has the beautiful consistency of butter and oil, that I can rub into my locs when it’s wet or dry around 2-3 times a week without any nasty build up or residue. I find this product is perfect for hair that has been dyed as my hair needs to stay moisturised to avoid breakage and this oil definitely helps to avoid that. Made with Coconut oil, it smells beautiful too, so I would definitely recommend it, plus it comes in a big tub so it’s worth its buck.

Second up is Jamaican Castor Oil. Funnily enough, I initially started using this product in the caribbean. Seeing so many naturalista’s rave about natural Jamaican castor oil really made me want to try it as it had properties stimulated hair growth. Since starting to use this product I’ve gone through two bottles. Embracing your natural hair is hard business especially when everyone’s minds are on how fleeky their edges are these days, but when your hair has been through some trials and tribulations, castor oil is the answer to restore those edges! Have you tried?

Since starting my dreadlocks I’ve always come back to this Oil. Mango & Lime is a brand that I was first introduced to when I began my locs and their  non-abrasive formulas have been very kind to my hair. Once I wash my hair I go in with this oil and massage it into my scalp. I hate using thick grease on my scalp that leaves a horrible residue, so this oil is perfect if you’re like me and need something that deeply moisturises and sinks in.

Since I loved the Monoi Oil conditioning creme I had to get myself some of their anti-breakage oil fusion. I’ve found great results using this oil, it comes with a pipette applicator for direct application allowing me to target areas on my scalp and at the end of my hair – really moisturising and tackling breakage, which is something I’m so worried about having dyed my hair multiple times… plus it smells divine.

Lastly, this is my guilty pleasure hair product – a gel. Since a young age I’ve never been a fan of gel as it can cause hair to break, flake and suffocate follicles, which is why i don’t use this all the time. However, since boycotting the salon, I still wanted to achieve goddess like fleekiness when I do my hair at home, and this really allows me to slay my edges. I don’t go all in as this has a very thick consistency, but once I mix with water to kind of dilute it, I find that it lays down any stray and can really neaten up a look. I would recommend only using this product when your hair is wet and the tying down your hair to achieve a slick look, as on dry hair it can pull and damage your hairs. Also, I use this every so often, as I don’t believe locs should be all neat (defeats the whole point of embracing natural hair) but it’s nice if I have an interview or going out on the town.

So, those are the 5 products I’ve been using in my hair for a while, and I’m really enjoying the results. Do you have locs or rock your natural hair? What products would you recommend me using? Also, who are your favourite naturalista’s on Instagram, I need some hair inspiration!
