Primark False Nails: Achieve the perfect at-home manicure

Hey dolls,

I’m just going to shimmy past the fact that I haven’t posted in ages and tell you how much I’m loving Primark’s false nails.

I never really go into Primark, but, after a failed attempt to swipe up their infamous Chip mug #chipgate – if you managed to get one – I hate you, I found myself looking around and ended up in their beauty section.

As of recent I’ve been having a little bit of a style crisis. I find myself liking things but second guessing if I could ‘pull it off’, but when I found their false nails I thought – efff it!

The funny thing is I’m not a fan of fake nails but, after looking through Primark’s vast array of options I just couldn’t help myself.

After whittling my choices down to two sets of falsies (it was a hard decision especially as each pack was only £2!) I ended up with a chromatic pair which I’m currently wearing and a pretty gold metallic pair which I love.

To be completely honest I never really have much faith in anything Primark, as even if I find an amazing product, I find their quality just isn’t as great as it could be, but of course it’s expected considering how affordable everything is.

Since the end of last year I stopped treating myself to getting shellac so, in a bid to pamper myself, I took my time and prepped my nails as well as the falsies and applied them and they’ve lasted a whole 4 days without any retouches – which I’m sure we can all agree is amazing for any do it yourself false nails and especially as they’re from Primark!

But, let me tell you how I’ve managed to make them last so long.

  1. Prep nails. Take off any nail varnish and remove any oil from the nail beds by using nail varnish remover. Wipe clean and don’t wash hands.
  2. Cut, file & buff. I think this is the most important step. Cut your nails down short, file them into a nice shape then, with the extra rough side of your nail file, buff all over the nail bed. This will leave some debris on the nail bed but leave it on as this debris will help the nail stick with the glue.
  3. Assign false nails to each finger. I found that there wasn’t a great deal of sizes in Primark’s packet. They were either too big or too small, which meant I had to spend a bit more time filing the larger nail options down to fit on my nail bed.
  4. Glue time! Let me tell you that this glue is actually really strong, I thought I may have to buy stronger name brand glue, but Primark’s has sufficed. I made sure to cover my whole nail bed with glue as well as on the backside of the nail I had assigned to each of my nails, paying particular attention to the edges so that they stuck down properly.
  5. Once each nail is was stuck down, I held down with pressure for about 30 seconds and moved on to the next.

Wa-lah! There you have it.

I’m really really pleased with the quality of these nails, as I have bought more expensive packets of false nails before and always been been a victim of one suddenly popping off in public or looking down at my hand to find a two missing #NotaGoodLook.

Have any of you tried Primark’s falsies? Or anything from their ever-growing beauty range? What did you think?

Also let me know if you try my way of applying falsies at home x

‘Tis the season to be jolly…

Hey y’all,

Can you believe it’s the first of December?!

I know, neither can I!

So much has happened this year. I’ve grown, I’ve travelled, and I finally started this blog… and actually been consistent, although I’m still getting used to the fact that people actually read, comment and interact with me over this ‘space’ as well as my other social media. It’s seriously mind boggling.

Nevertheless, to say thank you and to celebrate Christmas (eeek! 24 days and counting) I wanted to do a giveaway strictly for all of you who read my blog – new and old, and what better way to do it than on the first day of #blogmas?

Disclaimer: I will be doing #blogmas this year, however, I will not be posting everyday

If you’ve read my blog, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of Nails Inc nail varnishes and that I love keeping my hands fully moisturised, and with this sudden turn of bitterly cold weather it is very necessary to keep our hands looking glam.

Plus, with it being Christmas, it’s the perfect time to welcome all things glitter, which is why I’ll be giving one of my lucky readers the chance to win; 1x Nails Inc Christmas Nail Cane Set + 2 Kiehl’s hand creams in Coriander (this smells surprisingly lush) and Lavender.

6 Beauty Products I Wish I NEVER Bought

Over the past few months I’ve accumulated  a lot of beauty products, LOADS of which I’m a fan of and would definitely repurchase, but there’s been a few that I’m just NOT feeling, no matter how much I try to use and get used to them, so I thought I’d share my experiences.

First off is Sleek’s Matte Me. I bought this lippie last month on my hunt to find the perfect matte lipstick – I’m actually obsessed with any matte look but I find it hard to find colours that sit well against my skin tone. I decided to give these a go, they were cheap and every one had been raving about them. I picked up Birthday Suit that had been sold out everywhere and Fandango Purple. However, these lippies looked terrible on me and felt really drying and papery on my lips – am I the only one?

Next up is NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. I’ve really got a love hate relationship with NARS, they have beautiful products that I would love to try, but their foundation shades just don’t cater to my skin tone, which leads me on to this product. I bought this tinted moisturiser for a holiday I was going on – I didn’t want to wear makeup, but I didn’t want to go bare faced, so I thought a tinted moisturiser would be the way to go. I bought this tinted moisturiser in Polynesia, which was the darkest they went up to (i don’t think they’ve got anything darker) but it definitely wasn’t my shade even after being recommended it in Selfridges. I was also disappointed with its coverage.

One thing that really annoys me when applying makeup is my visible pores. It’s one thing I would definitely change if I could, but I’ve come to learn that no matter what I do, nothing tremendously improves their appearance. I bought this Garnier Smoothing Correcting Primer, and after reading what it could do for me, I was sold! I did notice a difference in it smoothing over my pores, making my makeup look that extra bit flawless, however, it made me super SHINY! – absolutely not a good look, especially as I suffer with oily skin.

garnier

I’m sure you know by now that I’m in love with Nails Inc from my last nail inspired post. I received this Nails Inc Nail Polish in Uptown for Christmas, and I instantly fell in love. It truly is the perfect nude pink. I love it, but sadly it just doesn’t suit me 😦

I think it would suit a fairer skin tone though, but to be completely honest, I just like looking at it *covers face in shame*

Carrying on with the whole lip pie saga, I recently found out that NYX is now available on ASOS- yes, hunny! I had heard so many people raving on social media about NYX products, saying they were really good and super affordable, so I thought I’d give them a go. I would never normally recommend buying lip gloss/ lipstick products online as you just don’t know if the colours you’re seeing are true to life, but I went with it anyway – more fool me!

NYX

I chose Prague in the soft matte creme and Merengue in the butter gloss, which really do look beautiful, but look terrible on me. Again I found the matte gloss felt papery on my lips – I think this is a sign that I stick to matte lipsticks as I just don’t find matte glosses are my cup of tea. Does anyone else have this problem?

The last item on my list is Decleor Aroma Night. This is a night balm, which you put on after cleansing your face. I found this product left my skin sooo hydrated and smooth, however, it STANK. The smell was just not pleasant and actually put me off, because it’s all over your face, you cant escape it lol. The only thing I could compare it to was black Liquorice, like those black jack sweets lol. I wouldn’t say this product was a complete fail, but I won’t be re-purchasing, simply because of the smell.

So tell me, what products have you been loving and hating? Let me know x

Nail Your Style – My Fave Nail Polishes for Spring!

Nail Your Style - My Fave Nail Varnishes

Can you believe there are exactly 24 days until it’s officially Spring – where has the time gone?

Spring has nearly sprung and while the weather has been transitioning, so has our beauty and fashion style. We’re taking on more fresh colours and putting away dark shades – although I do love rocking an Ox Blood shade at any time of the year! So of course this should be applied to the little details we love to take care of, like our nails.

I’m a huge collector of nail varnishes and nail products. No, seriously. After a major clean out of stale, gloopy polishes, I now have about 200 nail varnish bottles in my room right now – so let me take you through a few of my favourite nail hues that I’m loving at the moment, and of which can be perfectly worn with the onset of spring in sight.nails3

First off, is my Mavala Nail Care Set is tha bomb! I usually use these products before my choosing my actual polish shade, as these help to repair and strengthen my nails. After shaping and buffering my nails, I’ll coat them in Mavala’s Scientifique – a nail hardener, then go in with a two step nylon fibre base – which has a rough texture, and seal which acts as another protective layer. I really do recommend these products as they have helped keep my nails in good shape after they became damaged and very brittle – too many trips to the nail salon 😦

Next, I go in with my fave shade of the moment. This week it’s Essie’s – Jamaica Me Crazy. The name of this polish alone is what drew me to buy it – I do love a cheesy play on words – but I think the real reason is that I’m having holiday blues, can’t stand this British weather at the moment… the shade is super cute too lol!

Normally I do two layers, one thin first layer, then a second thicker layer to make the colour really pop. (I rarely use a base coat as I already use the Mavala products before any actual nail varnish and I find it just get too thick otherwise and takes forever to dry)

As I do my nails on a weekly basis – It’s way too time consuming to paint my nails more than that – I do have a cute selection of nail colours that I feel compliment the time of year.

I’m really loving pink/berry tones as they look great against my skin tone and are perfect for the time of year, but if I’m feeling a bit daring, the electric blue and hot red are definite options.

When I’m really in the mood I finish with a lovely top coat – Nails Inc’s Top Coat Kensington Caviar… but let me warn you… its stinks!

What nail colours do you love at the moment? Have you found any hues perfect for spring?

Not that I need to but, I would love to find some more colours and branch to different brands – as you can see I’m a hardcore fan of Nails Inc and Essie!
