Sunday Brunching: C么te Brasserie

This weekend my sister celebrated her 16th birthday (I’m actually getting old聽馃槚 馃槴). After a busy week for both of us – with her going to her leavers prom and me getting wasted on Friday after a LONG week at work, we decided to be ladies who brunch.

CB1

I’ve always headed to Battersea Rise when I’m on the lookout for cool eateries, no matter if i’m feeling in the mood for American style pancakes, a tasty fry up or want to try something new, I know it’s a foodies safe – haven.

This time we decided on brunch at C么te Brasserie, a cute understated restaurant situated on the corner of Webbs Road.

CB

Inspired by the brasseries of Paris, C么te Brasserie聽offers all-day dining, serving authentic French classics as well as British faves made from great quality and fresh ingredients.

With an empty stomach and breakfast on our minds, we arrived just before last orders were taken – 1pm on weekends and 12pm on weekdays.

The interior was very minimalistic and sophisticated, complemented by rich burgundy and grey hues聽for a light yet moody atmosphere, perfect if you want to聽escape the outside world for a few hours, and if you’ve got a tender headache and need a calm atmosphere to co-operate lol.

The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, so we got the drinks in…tea! Am I the only one to think that tea always tastes better in a tea pot? I can just never get it right at home.

CB4

The breakfast menu had quite a small聽selection but covered all the bases, but after scanning the menu聽I ended up getting an Full English Breakfast – very adventurous, I know – but after such a busy weekend I just needed ALL the food!

CB3

What I loved is that I got to pick what type of eggs I wanted, normally cafes give you the choice between fried and scrambled, but this time I went for poached…ooh lala! My order also came with the option to choose what bread I wanted to be toasted.

CB6

My sister ended up going for the more brunchy and picturesque option of Eggs Royale -which looked amazing. After about a 20 minute wait, our food was served.

CB5

CB7

The portions were just right, but, of course we couldn’t go to a brasserie without trying something even remotely french, so we ordered a pain au chocolate and a croissant which were served warm, making them melt in the mouth. No one likes a hard pastry.

C么te Brasserie was the ideal choice for Sunday brunch, especially if you don’t feel like queuing up for The Breakfast Club, which is a more popular choice a few doors away but had a waiting time of 2 hours聽馃槓.

The staff’s attention to detail and overall customer care was 馃挴 , and the food was not only delicious but also very affordable with our bill coming in at under 拢30, they also offer a gluten free menu, great if you want to brunch with friends who have different eating requirements.

For me this restaurant was definitely one of the best I’ve been to for breakfast/brunch and an overall great experience, so I would rate it a solid 9/10!

Looking for somewhere to brunch? Try聽C么te Brasserie.

N.B. – To avoid disappointment, I would advise to book a table in advance as it got quite busy, while we were eating.

See you on my next post x

Tartelette 2 In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette Review

Recently I’ve taken a back seat with new beauty products on the scene, I am seriously lost with what products I should be buying and what products I need to leave on the shelf, but one product I treated myself to a few weeks go is the Tartelette 2 In Bloom palette and it is one that I am seriously impressed with.

T4

Let me start by saying – My name is Rianne, and I am a beauty hoarder. Honestly, I have about 3 drawers filled to the brim with beauty products that I have never used, but have bought because they look pretty in the packaging (I really ought to go through them and see what gems I can find).

I thought it was time to treat myself to some new eye shadows as I had been using my MAC Burgundy x9 eyeshadow palette to death – to be honest it’s one of the best palettes I’ve ever bought, but it was time to find something else, that was just as good, after all there’s only so many colour combos you can come up with 9 shadows.

I am a sucker for bronze/neutral shades, so when I heard about the Tarte palette I was sold. This luxurious palette comes with 12 beautiful shades, but let me start with the packaging – every girl’s kryptonite.

Tarte got it so right with the packaging of this palette. As you can see it’s super ‘girly’ covered in a floral print which is fitting as it is called ‘In Bloom’. The palette comes in a shiny cardboard packaging, and once opened it reveals the smooth, hard gold casing the same floral print on top. Absolutely beautiful!

T5

Open it up and you are greeted with a huge mirror. I feel that all eye shadow palettes should come with a mirror – it should just be part and parcel, because when you’re on the go it makes things so much easier – plus it really adds to its luxuriousness.

Directly underneath the mirror is the jackpot. 12 NEW and undeniably beautiful hues, 9 matte shades, perfect for creating a day to day look, great for work, plus 3 shimmery lustrous shadows that can effortlessly turn any look into a more glamorous one, perfect for a night time soiree.

T7
Colours from right to left: Firecracker, Rocker, Leader, Rebel

My most used and favourite colours are the ones swatched, how beautiful are they?

The shadows in this聽Tarte palette are so dense and a little goes a long way, the colours are so pigmented and blend so well, especially when applied with Tartes double-ended eyeshadow brush (I swear by this brush), which disperses the product easily, evenly and with minimum effort for a sleek look that lasts longer and allows you to precisely place product for a symmetrical look.

Each shadow is made with Amazonian clay – ‘a聽nutrient rich clay is extracted from the banks of the Amazon River where the nutrients are at their highest concentration. As nature鈥檚 most perfect ingredient, this multitasking and total skin balancing clay has been known to remove surface oil and mattify skin, nourish all skin types and give skin an overall smooth and even appearance. 聽Can we just take a moment to appreciate the pigments of these eyeshadows.’

T6

I am seriously in love with this palette and impressed with how much I use it. The colours are insanely dense and pigmented and I love that these colours can also be used with MAC’s x9 palette. I bought this from QVC (which shouldn’t be slept on if you’re looking for American branded beauty at affordable prices) for 拢35 which is a little pricey, but you definitely get your moneys worth.

Have you tried this palette, what are you first impressions?

Follow me on Snapchat(RiRi9316), I would love to get to know you x

My Colourpop Catastrophe + Haul!

This sudden burst of sunshine here in the UK is giving me all types of lyf right now, and when the sun is out and my playlist is poppin’, I love to dress up in maxi dress, put my hair in a bun and make sure my make up is looking fleeky.

Wearing makeup in the sun can be a tricky art to master, which is why I like to keep it tres simple with minimalistic base, a pop of colour on the lip and an optional cat eye depending on how high the pollen count is, so everything on my face is kind of a simplified version of my February Face, except what’s on my lips – I’ve turned to colourful side and been sporting聽Colourpop Cosmetics!

Since immersing myself into the world of beauty blogging, I’ve heard loads of reviews about Colourpop. I had never heard about it before I began blogging, so I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about. The only knowledge I had about Colourpop is that聽You Tuber -itsmyrayeraye,聽worked on a collaboration with them and she always mentioned them in her videos – her lips are great too!

After perusing around their hundreds of lipsticks and eye shadows, I was sold. What was not to love, they have an insanely vast collection of colours and finishes and they are so affordable, it was hard to keep control. I decided to treat myself to a few Kaepop products too, as I just love Karrueche’s style and beautiful makeup looks.

colourpop1
Colours from left to right: Kaepop Beverly, Kaepop Wilshire, Kaepop Crenshaw & Kaepop Sunset Blvd
colourpop2
Swatches of each eye shadow. I love that this quad has a mixture of shimmery shadows and more matte bases, which will compliment each other when blended together. Also super pigmented which is always a plus!

I picked out three ultra matte lip products in StingRaye, Bad Habit and Rooch, one Lippie Stix in Lumiere and the Kaepop eyeshadow quad, 聽but after adding them all to my basket, I found they didn’t ship to the UK聽馃槱.

colourpop3
Colours from left to right: Lumiere, ad Habit, StingRaye & Rooch

After reading some blogs on how to get Colourpop the the UK, I knew it was possible to get the products out here, so I decided that the easiest way to get my goodies delivered was by courier. Many blogs recommended Borderlinx, so I went with this, but long story short, it was more money than it was worth.

If you’re in the UK, you cannot order straight from the Colourpop website, so what I had to do was order via Borderlinx, suing their Personal Shopper service. It was really simple and all you have to do is get the names of all the items you want and send them across with the price, so they can order it for you, however, they charge 5% of whatever the total of your order. My order came to about 拢30 which wasn’t bad at all, so I went ahead.

I thought this extra charge was a bit of a cheek, but it was only 5% so what the heck. Ha! how wrong I was. After a few days I received confirmation of my order, which would then be sent to borderlinx and then be sent to me, or so I thought. Once it was at borderlinx, I received another email saying I had to pay for shipping to the UK. Whut?! Little did I know shipping cost near 拢60!

This is where I became Thrifty McThrift, there was just no way I was spending more on shipping than what the actual products were worth. I decided to leave them there until I found a discount code. Discount codes are actual life savers, I always check for them before I buy full price items lol – I know I cant be the only one, there are just too many deals to be had out there.

After waiting about a month and a half for my products, I finally got them. The packaging was so cute and they also left me a little note, which I felt added a nice personal touch.

As you probably know from reading previous posts I am a sucker for lip products point blank, but I’m also 聽a sucker for matte lippies, and after many fiasco’s of trying to find the perfect matte formula for me, I think Colourpop have won my love.

colour4

The formulas are insane. They don’t feel papery but rather nourishing and they actually dry 100% matte and don’t budge once applied. However, I would say, before applying it is important to prep your lips – exfoliate and moisturise. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to go.

colourpop6

I am really happy with my Colourpop聽order. I’m obsessed with these matte lipsticks and the eyeshadows look really pigmented too so watch out for a makeup look on the blog soon!

I also love that Colourpop team up with bloggers and come up with cool colours that we can experiment with, while also display swatches on their website on different skin tones (every makeup brand needs to be doing this), it really does make shopping easier.

In the future I will order more Colourpop goodies, but I don’t think I will use Borderlinx again, simply because of how much it cost to get just a few items. So if any of you beauty bloggers have ordered Coloupop to the UK using an affordable courier, please let me know!!!

I hope you enjoyed, and let me know if you’ve tried any Colourpop makeup treats for yourself, my fave lip colour is Rooch so far, it’s my go to matte lip product and I don’t care that it’s now hot, I will rock this all throughout the summer, as it looks banging on my brown skin *cue India Arie*

Back at it again with this damn filter (wearing Rooch!)

How to Rejuvenate your Life After a Messy Weekend

Hey you lovely lot, you may be wondering where I’ve been over the past week, although I’m sure many of you haven’t even noticed my absence in the blogosphere, but after a mini unscheduled break (000ps!) I’m back at it!

For the first time in forever, I went on girls weekender with my cousins and in all seriousness, it’s taken me a whole week to recover – saying that I still feel a bit stiff.

We took a trip to Southport for a yearly event called Caribbean Weekender and to say the least, it was a crazy 72 hours.. smh

After three days of non stop drinking (I’m not actually a drinker at all), binge eating (at ridiculous times too) and a couple hours sleep, you can only imagine how I felt when I got back to my safe haven – home.

By the time I sat down in relaxation mode, it’s as if everything hit me at once. I caught the flu, my voice had gone, I felt tipsy and my body was aching at the peril of the terrible mattress I laid on and from all the dancing did (I’m not painting a pretty picture am I? I did have a good time though, I promise) but, I needed some major TLC.

So here’s 5 simple steps in which I rejuvenated my LIFE! (A bit dramatic, I know)…

First on my list was getting back into a skincare routine. While I was away my skincare routine went completely out of the window and combined with all the alcohol I consumed, my skin was dehydrated, dry and felt really grainy, which is why I made a point to exfoliate my skin in the morning, and moisturise using Simple Rich Moisturiser, cleanse again at night and then go in with Polar Night Cream, a really intense and quite rich moisturiser that regenerates the skin, which I received in this months Birchbox

How to rejuvenate your life after a messy weekend

What skincare are you loving at the moment?

As I mentioned, my body and bones were shot, and my whole being really needed revitalising. If you haven’t heard of Australian Bodycare products, please get to know! Their skin wash and body lotion, infused with Tea Tree Oil, really refreshes the body, which helps on mornings getting ready for work, and it smells refreshing too. Also sent in this months birch box has been Rituals Foaming Shower Gel Sensation, which I mainly use on the weekends after gym as the scent is calming and relaxing, and the foam feels nourishing against the skin – love!

How to rejuvenate your life after a messy weekend

Who else is loving their Birchbox this month?

Drinking alcohol leaves you feeling dehydrated and also quite shite, so I always make sure I drink loads of water throughout the day. Over the past week I’ve limited my coffee intake to just one a day while I’m at work, but I’ve swapped my usual teas for lemon and honey green tea, which has helped soothe my throat and I’m better for it – adding a slice of lemon and a few paracetamols helped too!

The problem with having a messy weekend is returning to work! Lawd, it’s the worst, but it has to be done. I really wanted to get a full body massage before making my dreaded return, but I just didn’t have any time, so to make up for it I just chilled with a Timeless Truth Eye Mask on, which ‘woke’ me up and reduced the puffiness around my eyes.

BH16

Using my Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist. Oh my gahhd- this stuff is beautiful. It smells divine. I like using this when I feel crusty, as it hydrates the skin and gently refreshes you.

BH13

Lastly, I kick a horrible hangover with FOOD! I know you’re all probably fans of a greasy fry up – I am too, but when I was away, I was eating a fry up every day lol. When I got back home, all I wanted was some fruit and veg…honestly! I just wanted to feel human again. But on a real note, the best way to my heart when I’m feeling down is scrambled eggs, salmon and an Avocado – did you know they make you happy?

After following these easy revitalising tricks for the last week, I have felt somewhat alive again lol. Getting wasted really is a chore, how do you kick a really bad hangover and rejuvenate yourself?

Tarte Amazonian Butter Lipstick Review

I don鈥檛 know if you鈥檝e noticed, but I鈥檝e been obsessed with lip products lately, just check out some of my latest posts.

To be totally honest with you all, being this obsessed with tracking down the ‘right’ colour is a blessing and a curse 鈥 a blessing because I鈥檓 trying so many new lip products, many good, many terrible and a curse because purse is looking hunger!

I鈥檝e been on the hunt… and I really do mean HUNT for the perfect nude/pink lipsticks ideal for women of colour. I have had so many lipstick fails over the months – I have to say I am so done with matte lippies for the minute! And after failing to bag a Kylie Lip Kit again I thought it was time to give up on that dream and try something different!

After writing my High End Beauty Wishlist, I continued with my research into different brands and I was re-introduced to Tarte.

I initially heard of Tarte when I worked at QVC, but never really gave the brand anytime, but, after seeing a few bloggers talk about their Tarte products and them wanting to try their glorious new range, I peeped their dreamy new collection, Rainforest of the Sea, I decided to take the plunge and go after some of their lip 鈥榮aviours鈥.

I really didn鈥檛 know what kind of products to pick, as I was buying online 鈥 it鈥檚 so difficult to find shades that are true to their real life appearance鈥 but I confidently went for their High Performance Naturals – a quad set of Amazonian Lip Butters.

tarte1

So you may be wondering why I did this to myself… AGAIN but the description for these lipsticks were on point, here鈥檚 what it said:

鈥淚nspired by the whimsical colors of the Amazon and infused with naturally-derived ingredients from its lush vegetation, these Amazonian butter lipsticks add a splash of rich color and creamy shine for a perfect pout.鈥

鈥 mean how could I not?!

Plus, all of their products are made without: Parabens, mineral oil, Phthalates, Triclosan, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Gluten and dermatologist tested!

But, what really drew me to this set was the names of the lipsticks, they’re named after exotic gemstones; Garenet, Ruby, Quartz and Topaz… I was sold and if you’re wondering why, I work in the jewellery industry and I love each of the gems for different reasons.

When I received my goodies (insert Ciara song) the packaging was lovely, so golden and shimmery and when I opened the small box package it was like looking into a garden (without sounding too cheesy).

The packaging of each lipstick is made out of cardboard, deepening the meaning of the lipsticks Amazonian blend, and each of the packaging is adorned with a pretty floral/filigree design.

tarte3

I jumped right in and swatched every colour and I was really happy with how they looked against my skin, although, I have to admit my fave is Garnet, it鈥檚 the perfect pink nude with just enough sheen.

tarte 4
Colours in order: Garnet, Topaz, Quartz and Ruby

Each lipstick is true to the title – holding a very buttery blend that glides onto your lip and really moistrises. They  also don鈥檛 really have a strong scent but they do have a vague refreshing minty smell, which is not overpowering or off putting, but a nice addition since it’s these lipsticks have taken out ‘bad’ ingredients and instead used natural ones.

You might have noticed that these lipsticks are not bolds but exactly as their name hints -Natural. They give a lovely sheer colour to your lip without being too ‘in your face’. These lipsticks also have great staying power and I can go all day without having to re-apply! It’s all you ever really want in a lipstick to be fair!

For 拢26 this set of 4 lipsticks has been a steal! Especially when I think of Mac selling one lippie for 拢15! They are perfectly coloured for darker girls who want to try a nude or a pink, and they are perfectly sized as I will probably use the colours before I get bored of the shades.

I have been wearing the Garnet shade non stop this week as I feel it is the standout shade in the collection, however, the amazing quality of these lipsticks have made me excited to try out some more.

With that being said will you be trying this spring forward quad? Have you tried any Tarte cosmetics, how did you find them? If you want to see what these lippies actually look like on my lips head over to my Instagram for some cheeky snaps!

See you on my next post x

High End Beauty Wishlist

Since a young age I’ve had a love / hate relationship with makeup, but over the last few years I honestly think immersing myself 聽in social media and聽blogging, has opened me up to the world of makeup in a positive way.

When I was younger, I squirmed at the thought of applying lipstick and vowed that I would never wear the stuff – it honestly scared me, to the point that I didn’t even like getting my face painted at parties –聽lol I was a weirdo, but as I’ve grown up it’s all become a bit of a playground for me. I now see applying makeup as a way to accentuate my best features, a聽luxurious step in the game of getting ready for the day ahead and I really have started to enjoy it.

Saying this though, I’ve recently come to look at my makeup collection through critical eyes, I’m just not excited by the products I use anymore and I put this down to the type of products I buy.聽I don’t own any high end makeup!

This may not be a big deal for many I’m sure, but I’ve come to a stage in life where I definitely appreciate quality over quantity and really feel it’s time for me to invest in good products, instead of the popular hype.

With anything I buy I have to ask myself specific questions, to see if what I want is a worthwhile purchase…
-Will it save me money in the long run?
-Once I have it, will I use it?
-How long will it last me, how long will I use it for?
-Do I have anything like this already?

High end makeup can pull on the purse strings especially as you DON’T actually need makeup to survive, but, if like me you wear makeup on a near daily basis, I think it’s totally acceptable to indulge in such products as, they’ll last, they’re of good quality (not saying that cheaper products aren’t) and a little goes a long way.

I dislike change with a passion, which means I tend聽to stick to products I know , but after a bit of research and peeping a few new releases, I’ve built myself a bit of a high end beauty wish list which mainly consists of base products, but I feel once you have great base products, you can build a fab look with any other type of makeup products you already own!

A more than few of these products are exactly what this post is about – A WISH! But, if I could afford these luxury beauty items, I definitely would…

The Bloggers Hangout Event!

On Monday I attended my first ever blogger event!

Since I started my blog 鈥 which wasn鈥檛 THAT long ago – I have heard nothing but good things about The Bloggers Hangout events, so I signed up to attend the evening soiree in Hoxton, and it was nothing short of an amazing experience!

On the day of the event I didn’t really have any expectations, but I was a bit anxious, worrying about what to expect, wondering what the atmosphere would be like and if I would talk to anyone鈥 but, to be honest, I had nothing to worry about.

So let me rewind – Just before the event, I had arranged to meet up with a few lovely bloggers that I had become friends through Twitter chats 鈥 Laura, Christine & Shannon 聽x

The venue was a short walk away from Hoxton station and was in a cute kind of derelict building. I wasn鈥檛 really sure what to expect in terms of layout but at first glance it appeared quite small, however, as I made my way throughout the stalls I noticed there was actually two rooms filled with bloggers and great brands!

So, when we first entered the venue, I kind of felt out of my depth, and the best thing to do, for me, in these types of situations, is just dive in. The first brand that caught my eye was a drinks brand called ZEO.

To be completely honest I didn’t really know how to approach the stall, but I went up and the lady was sooo kind. She went through the brand, telling me a little about the drinks – check them out here! They had five flavours to taste, including: Peach and Grapefruit, Zesty Lime, Blood Orange and Citrus, Mixed Berry and Cloudy Lemon, but, I opted for the peach and grapefruit, as I normally got for a safe lemon kind of drink.

I know everybody expects us bloggers to rave about the brands in these blogs, but I was pleasantly surprised about Zeo’s refreshingly fruity taste, which wasn’t too overpowering or too fizzy, making it a great treat if you’re trying to ween yourself off of fizzy drinks, yet still want to fill the void with a sparkling treat.

After tasting, I got talking to the brand representative and she basically explained the drinks in more detail:聽“We add a tiny amount of South American Stevia and just a touch of beet and cane sugar for sweetness.聽Our six bright, crisp and refreshing flavours are carefully crafted in small batches and are under 30 calories for a 275ml bottle.”

I’m not a fan of juices or fizzy drinks, but this is a drink I would genuinely buy from time to time. What really interested me though is that the drinks are perfect for experimenting with, say if you wanted to make a low calorie Mojito or create a zesty icing for a cake!

BH2

BH11

After speaking to Zeo, I felt a lot more confident about talking to other brands. At these types of events it’s so easy to feel out of place, but I just went to the next stall which was Jurlique!

I’ve heard of Jurlique before through some of my fave vloggers on YouTube, but had never tried them for myself. Jurlique is a natural skincare brand from Australia and they are amazing!

BH3

I was immediately drawn in by their cute stall, which was decorated with their new hand creams – I’m sure you know how much I love hand creams and lip balms now – so I had a peruse and the representative, Claire, got talking to me. I told her my obsession with hand creams like a complete nerd, and she offered to give me a hand massage using the new hand cream range! Let me just say… this hand cream DOES work. I dunno if it was the hand massage combined with the cream but my hands felt supple and moisturised. Normally if I wash my hands they get tight and really dry, but I woke up the next day and they still felt soft, even my boyfriend noticed, and that says a LOT! So check them out!

BH4

BH13

Claire was so personable and I feel like we really got on, she also kindly gave me this rosewater balancing mist that smells divine. It refreshes and revitalises your face and can be sprayed over your makeup after a long day or just used to聽calm and rebalance you.

Next up was Kenneth Turner, I am a huge candle fan, I have so many sweet homely scented Yankee Candles in my room but, Kenneth Turner is master florist who embraces floral couture and has turned his passion into a niche – floral scented candles that are long lasting!

BH7

This was the amazing Kenneth Turner table, all the scented candles and incense sticks were on display and truly smelled divine. Not to blow my own trumpet or anything, but I was actually quite good at deciphering the ingredients in each candle – the lady was suprisingly聽impressed – my favourite being Spirit.

BH14

BH15

I chose to take the scented room cologne in Signature a quite spicy and classic scent, which is a completely different scent 聽from what I would normally, but I’ve never had a room cologne so I thought I’d try a different type of product.

During the event, there were a lot of stalls to choose from, but I tried to only go to brands that I thought I would be genuinely interested in… I feature nail styles and trends quite a bit on my blog which is why I had to visit ThumbsUp a brand that specialises in cool graphical nail wraps – just look at their amazon patterns *dreamy eyes*

BH9

BH10

I don’t know if you know this, but I work in the jewellery industry, which means I’m always drawn to really sparkly pretty jewellery. Dolly’s was one of three jewellery stalls featured at the event, but out of all, I really liked her pieces. Dolly’s pieces were all handmade – she was kind enough to gift me this gorgeous skiver feather charm bracelet which will look wicked stacked against my watch and other cool bracelets.

BH12

By this point, I had nearly been around all the stalls for the event, but I feel I really had left best until last – I found a stall for L.A.B2 and SensationNAIL聽!

L.A.B2 are a brand that creates professional makeup products and tools for makeup junkies – making it easy for normal people like me with a real interest in makeup to make our makeup look flawless. I received a gift bag which contained some makeup brushes and a cute sponge applicator – The box also featured a diagram on how to actually use the sponge applicator which will come in handy as I’ve had no luck in the past.

BH17

I’ve actually used the makeup brushes once to create a glittery eye look and they were so nice to use. The brushes were fluffy and dense and picked up product quite well. They are simply designed too, which I love!

BH18

SensatioNAIL is probably the brand I was most excited about trying after I left the event, offering shiny gel nails that are achievable from your own home. I don’t know how to explain just how excited I was, but getting shellac every two weeks can become expensive, so this is a great and affordable alternative, especially as you don’t have to use special gel colours, but can use your own nail varnish and mix it with a gel formula to created a gel polish from your already existing collection! whoop whoop!

BH19

The pack contained an easy three step guide and to set the nails AND it comes with a snazzy LED Lamp! I mean – this is crazy!

BH20

As you can probably tell from all the amazing goodies I picked up, the event was totally beneficial, although, I do wish it was more social, in terms of meeting bloggers as everyone was occupied with talking to brands – It seems like I walked passed many Twitter friends without even knowing lol

As a new blogger, The Bloggers Hangout event was really cool, and a great way to interact with brands I wouldn’t have, from behind a screen.

Have you been to a Bloggers Hangout event? Do you recommend any other blogger events? Hit me up x

The Beauty Blogger Tag!

Hey lovelies, I feel like it’s been a bloody lifetime since I last posted as life has just taken over, but I’m back with something fun and quite unexpected!

I’ve been nominated to do the Beauty Blogger Tag by the amazing Invoke Delight and Inspire (be sure to check her out!) so here goes!

The Rules for this Tag:

Tag the blogger that nominated you
Answer the questions you were given
Nominate 10 bloggers whose blog is about beauty/lifestyle/fashion
Name 10 questions for your nominees to answer
Inform the bloggers you chose that you nominated them.

Do you prefer matte or dewy foundation?
As I suffer with oily skin it’s quite funny that I actually don’t prefer matte foundation. I thought that it was the best foundation for my skin, however, I feel that matte foundations make my skin more oily! Instead, I use a dewy foundation but then set with a matte powder, so I get the best of both worlds and my skin doesn’t end up looking super oily or really dry and greyish.
What鈥檚 your favourite high end product?
This is quite sad that I don’t own any high end kind of makeup, although, these days I am constantly reaching for my MAC Burgundy 9x palette聽which is a luxurious palette, I love using it!
What鈥檚 your favourite drugstore bargain?
I don’t think I have a drugstore bargain, but I on my lips I use Barry M’s Cor Balmy in Rosie Lea –聽It gives a lovely soft pink colour to my lips perfect for a neutral every day look.
Do you spend more time doing your hair or your makeup?
Definitely doing my makeup! Most mornings I whip of my head tie, shake my hair and I’m ready to go, but no matter if I’m running late to work or not I love to take my time to do my makeup – it’s really relaxing!
Do you co-ordinate your shoes/purses?
One of my pet peeves in life is being too coordinated.
If you could only use one brand of makeup for the next month, which would you choose?
It has to be MAC! The most affordable brand that cater to every skin type.
What鈥檚 your skincare routine?
Since the beginning of the year, I made a conscious effort to take off my makeup and show my skin some well needed TLC. At night my skin regime consists of taking off my makeup with Body Shop’s Camomile Cleanser, I’ll then further clean with Garnier’s Charcoal scrub or wipe away any leftover makeup with Garnier’s Micellar Water and follow with moisturising with either Simple’s Rich Moisturiser or Body Shop’s Drops of Youth. In the morning I always use a face scrub, usually Garnier’s Charcoal scrub and moisturise with Drops of Youth. Quite straight forward but depending on my skins condition I alternate between different products.
Would you ever/have you done the no-poo shampoo method? If you鈥檝e already done it, what were your results?
If you’ve read my hair post聽聽I follow a regime that is quite effortless, however I only use a conditioner ONLY when I’ve coloured my hair, otherwise, I’ll use Tresemme hair shampoo and their conditioner which helps strengthen and volumes my hair.
What鈥檚 the most unexpected thing you鈥檝e found about blogging?
It definitely has to be how supportive the blogging community has been. And getting to know other bloggers, so much so that I can genuinely call them friends! Also the twitter chats which are often hilarious!
Name your go-to lip balm?
I am聽obsessed with finding the perfect lip balm. My failsafe go to balm is Carmex, but on a recent trip to Lush, I treated myself to their Honey Trap Lip Balm, and O-M-G it is the best lip product ever. It’s quite thick so it coats the lip without being suffocating and greasy, instantly moisturises and smells聽delicious! Try it!

Nail it with Rosie Fortescue!

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ll know I have an endless love affair with nail polishes (owning a few 200!), and this week I was fortunate enough to try out some cool nail products by Rosie Fortescue!

For those of you who don’t know who Rosie Fortescue is, she stars in reality series; Made in Chelsea – a major guilty pleasure of mine, and has had some of the most spectacular on screen dramas – my most favourite scene being when Rosie was exposed for having an affair with her best friends boyfriend -ABSOLUTE DRAMA!

Branching off of the MIC franchise, Rose has released a her own jewellery line and most recently; NAILED LONDON – her nail polish brand, which I was pleasantly surprised about and just needed to try!

NAILED LONDON 1

Nailed London is described as a fashion forward brand聽with a patented, revolutionary 3-step system, developed to closely match the look, feel, wear and gloss of a professional gel polish that provides superior longevity. This聽is an effect I love in nail polish as I adore super glossy or absolute matte finishes – I think it juts looks really chic, so I was intrigued to find out if it really played up to its promises.

The Nailed collection聽is also said to be inspired by catwalk looks with is not surprising as Rosie is an avid blogger and has been spotted at many a London Fashion Week.

Looking at her collection I picked out her Base Coat, Top Coat and a beautiful bubblegum/ Barbie pink – Booty Call because who doesn’t like one of those, ey! – along聽with a few other colours

When I first saw the colour of Booty Call聽I was in love, I’ve got a thing about pink, which is quite weird as it’s not my favourite colour, but I immediately prepped my nails (filed and buffed)

As I explained before in my previous nail post – I use Mavala’s nail strengthener and a 2 part fibre which helps protect your nail. I ditched the two part fibre and went in with the Nailed Base Coat – which was really easy to apply and dried quite quickly.

Next, my favourite bit… applying the colour! I went in with a thin first coat, and I found the varnish really smooth and easy to apply. The nail brush is聽tapered which allows it to go as close as possible to the cuticle without getting nail varnish everywhere. I followed 聽with a second coat and then the Top Coat,聽which was noticeably more shiny, although when it dried it was just normal.

NAILED

The colour and finish was beautiful – what do you think?, however, I found that the overall finish wasn’t gel-like at all, which was disappointing. On the plus side the varnish dried quite quickly, making it easier for me to get on with the rest of my day (as I was cheeky and did my nails at my desk at work)

After a couple days of wear I did notice a few chips here and there (but I do find my nails chip very easily), which you would definitely not get with shellac or professionally done gel nails, and the fact that the appearance of a gel finish was next to none, made the experience disappointing.

However, if you are looking for a new nail brand and are pulled in by one of her 28 shades, which is a quite vast range, I would definitely go for it, as I feel the colour selection is great and the names are cool and quirky.

What do you think, have you tried Rosie Fortescue’s NAILED LONDON range yet? Will you be? Let me know, I love interacting with you x聽

My Hair Disaster!

This is all about the time I ended up with pink/blonde roots and burgundy ends! YES you read that right!

IMG_7127
This is the only photo I could find with my pink roots – but聽it聽doesn’t give it justice, thank god!

For us girls, our hair – as much as we like to deny it, is a big aspect of our appearance. We love to take care of it, colour it, cut it and play around with different styles, so when it goes wrong it鈥檚 very much a big deal 鈥 it鈥檚 kind of like having a big spot on your face – Everyone will pretend they don鈥檛 see something majorly wrong, but we all know the problem, its right…there! And sadly, it鈥檚 an unspoken etiquette that I鈥檝e experienced all too well.

So if you didn鈥檛 already know, I鈥檝e had dreadlocks for about 8 years (take a look at my recent hair post) – and very recently cut them into a lob 鈥 the length and weight of my hair was just too much.

Anywho, one day I decided to dye my hair red! I love seeing coloured dreads and I just wanted a change. Throughout my childhood my parents never really let me experiment with my hair, which is why I thought I鈥檇 finally give it a go.

Once I decided on the shade of red I wanted (I think it was postbox by Schwarzkopf), I visited my usual hairdresser, who I don鈥檛 actually think is a trained hair colour specialist, but I did it anyway and it looked bomb! I was so happy!DSC01245

Being a red head was all I imagined lol, I constantly got compliments, even got a new nickname 鈥 rasta red! But very soon I learned it was too much to maintain.
I was colouring my hair too often in order to keep its deep colour, which led to my hair becoming super damaged.

I decided to leave the colour for a few months, while treating my hair, using natural products and Jamaican Castor Oil, which really thickened up mu roots.

Skip forward, I had a holiday to Barbados coming up and wanted to have my hair colour popping again, so I booked an appointment to bleach my dark brown roots so the red colour would catch and then colour the rest of my hair.

Well. What a mistake that was.

You know when you sit in the chair and you just don鈥檛 feel confident. Like you know something鈥檚 up.

All I remember was looking in the mirror and seeing blondey/ginger roots. Errrrm is it meant to be like this? 鈥淵eah, yeah it will be fine, just wait 鈥榯il I put the colour on鈥 – was what my hairdresser replied. To be honest I should have known it could only end badly.

Instead, I decided to stay put and watch my hair being put to the test.

You know when you just don鈥檛 know what to do 鈥 cry, laugh, refuse to pay?

I left the shop in utter shame, no confidence and a greasy head, smh!
My roots were pink with blonde baby hairs and burgundy ends, three tones in one.

I knew it was game over as everyone on the bus home was just giving me that sympathetic look.

I went to Barbados looking 鈥榠nteresting鈥 to say the least. Everyone told me it wasn鈥檛 as bad as I thought it was but talking to my sister about it, and now she actually admits that it was terrible 鈥 thanks sis x

I guess the moral of the story is go to a qualified colourist and listen to your gut feeling!

I can obviously laugh at this now, but it鈥檚 taken so much for my hair to get back to normal, although I am thinking of colouring my hair again鈥 what can I say, I鈥檓 a gluten for punishment.

I know I鈥檓 not alone though, what dire hair mishaps have you been through, I really want to hear your stories, I can鈥檛 be alone on this one. x
