Primark False Nails: Achieve the perfect at-home manicure

Hey dolls,

I’m just going to shimmy past the fact that I haven’t posted in ages and tell you how much I’m loving Primark’s false nails.

I never really go into Primark, but, after a failed attempt to swipe up their infamous Chip mug #chipgate – if you managed to get one – I hate you, I found myself looking around and ended up in their beauty section.

As of recent I’ve been having a little bit of a style crisis. I find myself liking things but second guessing if I could ‘pull it off’, but when I found their false nails I thought – efff it!

The funny thing is I’m not a fan of fake nails but, after looking through Primark’s vast array of options I just couldn’t help myself.

ATHOMEMANICURE_4

After whittling my choices down to two sets of falsies (it was a hard decision especially as each pack was only £2!) I ended up with a chromatic pair which I’m currently wearing and a pretty gold metallic pair which I love.

To be completely honest I never really have much faith in anything Primark, as even if I find an amazing product, I find their quality just isn’t as great as it could be, but of course it’s expected considering how affordable everything is.

Since the end of last year I stopped treating myself to getting shellac so, in a bid to pamper myself, I took my time and prepped my nails as well as the falsies and applied them and they’ve lasted a whole 4 days without any retouches – which I’m sure we can all agree is amazing for any do it yourself false nails and especially as they’re from Primark!

ATHOMEMANICURE_2

But, let me tell you how I’ve managed to make them last so long.

  1. Prep nails. Take off any nail varnish and remove any oil from the nail beds by using nail varnish remover. Wipe clean and don’t wash hands.
  2. Cut, file & buff. I think this is the most important step. Cut your nails down short, file them into a nice shape then, with the extra rough side of your nail file, buff all over the nail bed. This will leave some debris on the nail bed but leave it on as this debris will help the nail stick with the glue.
  3. Assign false nails to each finger. I found that there wasn’t a great deal of sizes in Primark’s packet. They were either too big or too small, which meant I had to spend a bit more time filing the larger nail options down to fit on my nail bed.
  4. Glue time! Let me tell you that this glue is actually really strong, I thought I may have to buy stronger name brand glue, but Primark’s has sufficed. I made sure to cover my whole nail bed with glue as well as on the backside of the nail I had assigned to each of my nails, paying particular attention to the edges so that they stuck down properly.
  5. Once each nail is was stuck down, I held down with pressure for about 30 seconds and moved on to the next.

Wa-lah! There you have it.

I’m really really pleased with the quality of these nails, as I have bought more expensive packets of false nails before and always been been a victim of one suddenly popping off in public or looking down at my hand to find a two missing #NotaGoodLook.

Have any of you tried Primark’s falsies? Or anything from their ever-growing beauty range? What did you think?

Also let me know if you try my way of applying falsies at home x

Blogmas: How to pick the perfect Secret Santa Gift + Ideas

Christmas is just round the corner and I literally have not even started tackling my Christmas gift list 😩

However, my Christmas gift list isn’t actually that big. I have a very big family who all come together on Christmas day, but a few years ago we all decided that instead of everyone buying everyone a Christmas gift, we’d do a big Secret Santa.

Secrets don’t really work in my family, but somehow, we kinda all keep our secret santa nominee to ourselves lol (I say secret because i always manage to get it out my brother and sister 😆)

Now, I know this isn’t a new concept to many, as people usually take part in work place secret santa and even among friend groups, but, what I really used to hate was the price cap. Even now I don’t think £10-£15 is a high enough price to buy a decent Christmas gift, however, if you use your imagination, you can find some really good things.

There are a few things to consider;

The Person. This may sound obvious but you really need to think about the person you’ve got. What I love about secret santa is that it makes you have to find out a bit more information about the person you’re buying for. Gone are the day when a gift voucher or box of chocolates are acceptable 😯

What do they do for a living. Once you’ve got your secret santa, it’s time to think about something that they like. I immediately think of what they do for a living, however it’s worth considering if they love their job or just do it ‘because’. Do they work in an office? Perhaps get them a desk tidy or some fancy stationary they’ll be proud to use. Do they hate their job? Get something that’ll cheer them up everyday.

Interests: If you want to get something non-work related. Think about their interests and hobbies. Do they go to the gym? Are they a beauty fanatic? Are they fashion conscious? Do they love to cook/bake? Be pro-active in finding something they’ll actually use.

Are they crazy about Christmas? I think we all know at least one person who’s crazy about Christmas, i’m talking about the type to have their Christmas tree up in October! This is the easiest person to buy for in my opinion. Personalisation in 2016 is a key trend, so something like personalised baubles, stockings, a Christmas jumper… the lists really do go on.

For the person you don’t know at all. Once in a blue moon we’ll get appointed someone who we don’t know all that well. This is your chance to go full-on detective and do some digging!

I recently took part in a secret santa at my new work place I didn’t know anything about what the person liked. So being nosy, I found out that she recently moved into a new place. Perfecto! I bought her a few pieces she could use in her new home.

If you’ve got a Secret Santa coming up or you’re struggling to find a nice gift, consider my tips and take a look at my gift ideas…

5 ways to treat yourself when trying to save

This month I have been a bit more spendy than usual, but sometimes in life it’s necessary (although, not that necessary) to have those ‘f*ck it’ slash ‘yolo’ moments.

But like so many people my age, setting long term goals along with trying to get life in order and simply turning my hand at adulating, certain things more-rightly take precedent over buying the latest pair of heels, cult beauty buys and even the occasional date night – no matter how ‘cheap’ it is.

And while I use my blog as an outlet to share places I love visit in and around London, eateries, clubs and pubs I’ve discovered as well the occasional new makeup find, the reality is, I just can’t spend a frivolously as I used to, especially if I’d like to own my house in the near future.

However, every now and then a little treat can’t hurt, and here’s how I like to give myself a lil’ pick me up…

10-2

  1. Call me a Starbucks w*nker but I love me some coffee on the go. Chai Latte, Vanilla Latte, Flat White… don’t get me started – anything but Cafe Nero 😷 and I’m good. I don’t know what it is about a hot coffee in a paper cup to go, but it makes me feel sassy. And if it can pick me up at only £3 a pop – why the hell not. £3 here and there can add up though, so drink aware lol!
  2. Candles are a beautiful thing, and I haven’t bought one in ages, but I am a sucker for a lovely smelling Yankee Candle. Plus, Now that it’s winter and I’ve been reading loads of favourite posts which include a homely scented candles, I’ve reverted back to my faves; Baby Powder and Snowflake  Cookie. The Yankee Candle Jars are quite pricey at £18 but they do last forever. Think of it as a short term investment 😉
  3. Curled up with a chunky magazine in one hand and a warm cup of tea in the other is how I would love to spend any evening of the week, especially, now that it’s getting colder. I have to admit, I’m not one to often buy a magazine, but I do have my faves like Porter and Glamour. They are great inexpensive treats that I often only buy when there’s a freebie, meaning I get two treats for the price of one!
  4. Treating myself at times can be as simple as buying a chocolate🍫😋. Although, it’s very counter productive when I’m trying to lose weight. Nonetheless, I’m sure I’m not the only one who switches up there favourite chocolate snack. At the moment I’m feeling Lindt. What tickles your fancy?
  5. Getting nails done really should be considered as standard self-care 😂. I often go for shellac (£20) which lasts me about a month. It’s affordable and gives me that feel good factor without breaking the bank. Am I the only one who feels like they have their sh*t together when they come out of the salon 💅

Treating yourself doesn’t always have to break the bank, it could be as simple as buying a bouquet of flowers, or a new app, if that’s up your street.

How do you treat yourself?

Sephora Haul + Morphe 350 Palette

It’s been ages since I’ve done a makeup haul, but it’s with good reason, this one’s pretty special!

I had the opportunity to go to Sephora (eek!) while I was away in Dubai, and boy was I like a little girl in a candy store!

Although, I hauled these items a while ago, I’ve had them in my collection, used them, and have fallen deeply in love with all of them. So take a peep at what I got…

So, when I first entered the world renowned Sephoraaaa, I literally grabbed a basket and started putting everything that I’ve seen my fave YouTubers use, but as soon as I hit the counter to pay and I saw 850 dirhams, and knew some of my ‘must-have items’ needed to be back on the shelf.

It was a very tough choice, but this is what I came out with…

sephora2

After much deliberation, I ended up with these products 😍.

The Makeup Eraser. I had never heard of the makeup eraser before, but I was sucked in lol. Sometimes I am terrible at taking off makeup at the end of a long day, so this sounded like an amazing product. The makeup eraser is a really clever creation, it has two sides, one that’s rough (exfoliator) and one that’s smooth. Once drenched in water and rubbed on to the face it immediately takes off all the makeup, and it’s instantly shown on the back of the cloth. It can be used and washed up to 1000 times, and I’ve loved using it when I’m feeling a tad lazy. So products, no mess and simple to use! Can makeup removal get any easier?

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick. There was a short-lived trend with metallic lipstick and I really loved that it could take a makeup look from desk to dinner. The new Vice collection by Urban Decay has so many metallic options that I’m surprised I only left with one, but I ended up choosing Cruel – it has a beautiful combination of rose and gold tones along with a delicate sparkle, which can be built upon.

sephora-3

sephora6

Huda Beauty Lip Contour. Ever since getting into beauty through instagram, Huda beauty has been a major influence, plus she’s so beautiful! When her matte liquid lipsticks and lip contours released on Cult Beauty I had all the colours in my basket, but didn’t commit just incase they didm’t suit me 🙈. But when I tried them in Sephora they were all amazing, I’m actually upset I didn’t get the lipstick – my sister did though 😜. I picked the colour Famous – ‘cos that’s what we’re all tryna be right?  The colour is a beautiful wine colour with deep pink and brown undertones, it’s very pigmented and the coverage is immense. The texture of the pencil applies smoothly leaving the lips feeling moisturised, which is rare for a matte pencil. Here’s what it looks like…

sephora5

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. Yet again, I’ve been lusting after this eyeliner since… forever! Since losing my Benefit They’re Real Liner, I really wanted to try this cult product. I remember watching Kat Von D on TV and her makeup always looked bang on point, especially her winged liner. And no wonder, this eyeliner is so precise and jet black, plus the formula lasts all day. The pen itself is super thin, but what I love is that you can move the brush in different ways to create a thin and thick lines fluidly and with ease – something that’s so hard to achieve with other eyeliners.

sephora8

sephora9

Sephora Waterproof Eye Pencil. I think the blue eyeliner trend is wayyy gone, but I couldn’t help myself getting a royal blue (29 – My Boyfriend’s Jeans) The colour is flawless and super pigmented. The crayon itself applies really well and has a luxurious velvety feel which is surprising as it’s only Sephora brand! I would definitely recommend Sephora branded products as they seem to be high quality. Have you tried any?

sephora4

As I got a little spendy in Sephora, I told myself that I’d calm down with makeup buys, but a few weeks ago, I was sitting at my desk at work, scrolling through Instagram, minding my own business when I came across Beauty Bays post.

They had just restocked the Morphe 350 palette. I literally gasped out loud, and hopped onto the beauty bay website to purchase. Ever since seeing a beauty look done with this palette on xoxoshanta_ Instagram (check her out, her makeup is dope) I knew I needed to have it in my life, but it was sold out everywhere. I signed up to waiting lists on every beauty website and regularly checked, so when beauty bay had them back in stock, I needed to get my hands on it – and to be completely honest getting 35 different eyeshadows for £19 is an absolute bargain!

sephora11
Isn’t she beautiful? Also wearing shades from this palette on my lids.

My first Morphe purchase couldn’t be any perfect lol. It’s just so beaut – the colour that enticed me to get it is the orange eyeshadow, as it’s my fave colour and I hadn’t seen anything similar anywhere else, but playing around with the different colours I’ve fallen in love with it even more. Here are a few of my faves swatched…

sephora10

Have you hauled from Sephora before, what did you get? Also, have you been lucky enough to get your hands on the Morphe 350 palette, what are your thoughts?

See you on my next post x

Jurlique Jewels

Hiya Queens,

It’s been way too long since my last post, but during my time off (time away from blogging, life still went full steam ahead) I had the chance to fully immerse myself in a few treats the lavly people from Jurlique were kind enough to send me a few weeks ago.

J7

J8

J6

As you may already know, I was introduced to Jurlique at my first ever blogging event! Since then, I have been obsessed with their Rosewater Balancing face mist and really been preeing their website for some more products to try.

A few things have been running low in my everyday makeup bag, so I was so pleased that the people at Jurlique sent over some provisions.

As a women that’s unashamedly beauty obsessed, I’m always on the hunt for a great finishing powder. If you have oily skin, you know the struggle is real outchea. So, when I saw Jurlique’s new finishing powder in town, I had to snap that baby up.

J3

I’ve never really had any great luck with finding a good finishing powder, so I was excited to try this one, especially as it’s translucent, meaning it doesn’t add any more coverage- could it be my beauty saving grace?

My first impression of Rose Silk Finishing Powder (£26) was that it was quite affordable and chic. A little bit chunky to fit into my daily makeup bag, but it’s perfect for popping into my daily handbag instead. The compact was a decent size, had a nice sized mirror in the lid and came with a handy powder puff (not something I use, but, I’m sure is handy to others).

J4

J5

Once opened, the powder can be found under the puff, all you have to do is tilt the product compact for product to come out. To be honest, I don’t like this design, as it’s too messy and white powder just ends up everywhere.

The powder itself, feels quite chalky, with the same texture as talcum powder. However, once applied to a brush, and the excess is tapped off, the powder instantly mattifies your makeup, without looking insanely dry and 2D.

J9

The last couple weeks of July have been ridiculously hot, to the point where I’ve literally been melting like a MF, but this powder has really kept my makeup on point reducing my shine. After one application in the morning, this powder keeps my makeup in place, of course my makeup does get a bit shiny as the course of the day goes on, but, reduces it so my makeup doesn’t have a nasty un-intentional dewy glow after an hour.

After using this for a couple of weeks, I’ve been loving the way it finishes my makeup, as I know I can confidently go throughout the day without a touch up. If you’re thinking of picking this product up for yourself, one thing to bare in mind, is that it can make your makeup look cakey. I would advise applying ONE thin, even layer to finish your makeup, and avoid touch ups, which can leave you looking greyish and overly matte.

Overall, this product has become a staple in my daily makeup routine, and its smell of rose is just everything!

Jurlique were also kind enough to send over two other products, their; Exfoliating Hand Treatment (£20) and Nail & Cuticle Treatment Oil (£12).

J1

I am ashamed to admit that I suffer from dry hands, it’s just not a cute look and unfortunately for me, my tub of Lush’s Helping Hand hand cream which keeps my hands supple and moisturised (this product is a gift sent from god, real talk), ran out.

There seriously is no substitute for that hand cream, as it lasted me 3 months, which is incredible as I use hand cream about 20 times a day lol. But as it ran out I was intrigued to try Jurlique’s Exfoliating Hand Treatment to give my dry hands some TLC.

j10

J11

Now that i’m a lady of leisure…. well kind of  I try to use the treatment at least once a week – I smother my hands in the exfloiant, leave it on for 20 mins and then wash off with warm water. I wouldn’t say it works miracles, however, it does help to add moisture back into my skin, and really helps to keep them smooth. Plus, it’s a quite nice step to add into your pamper routine.

J2

Lastly, I was gifted the Nail & Cuticle Treatment Oil, which is what I use on my nails after the exfoliating treatment. It smells divine, and little goes a long way. Since I’ve started treating myself to shellac manicures, it’s nice to keep my nails strong as shellac can be damaging while also keeping my cuticles pretty and moisturised.

J12

On the whole, I’m enjoying my cute Jurlique package, and can’t thank the team enough!

If you’re on the hunt for beauty treats, check out Jurlique if you haven’t already and let me know what you think.

See you on my next one x

My Beauty Travel Essentials

Hey Lovelies,

With summer teasing us here in the UK, I’ve booked my next holiday to Dubai!

As a semi-seasoned jet setter (lol I wish!) I’ve teamed up with my blogger babe – Lani Rae all the way from New Zealand to bring you a fashion and beauty series to help you prepare for your summer travels – so make sure you head over to her blog for the fashion segment!

As I have just come back from Thailand, I thought I’d let you in on my top holiday beauty essentials, as I’m sure all you girlies can appreciate how hard it is to decide what beauty faves we should pop in our suitcase, while taking into account that we may get a tan – I mean, do we really need a brand new powder from duty free 3 shades darker? Yes, I hold my hands up, I am guilty of this – never again!

I love the countdown to a holiday for two reasons; it’s a chance for me to escape to an idyllic location, away from the hustle and bustle of London and the stresses of work so I can relax, but, also because I know it’s a great chance to treat my skin to plenty of Vitamin D as well as calm down on the makeup so my skin can breathe and repair itself.

It’s good to note that while on the plane, it’s wise to take off any makeup. Air con on the plane is a MF and completely dries out the skin. So pack makeup wipes and a great moisturiser – I quite like Nuit Polaire, although a night cream, it’s very moisturising without being heavy, and really sinks into the skin – great for a long haul flight.

For the most part of any holiday I go on, I rarely wear much makeup, however, I do have a few beauty essentials I need to let you all in on, so keep reading!

Beauty Essentials 6

Now I always over pack, no matter where I am going – is this just me?

An absolute essential for me is sun protection. Many people think that black people don’t need sun protection but everyone should protect themselves against UV rays, which is why I love Ultrasun.

Ultrasun have a massive range of sun protection – which I get for the face as well as the body. The formulas are not too heavy either, which is great as no one wants to feel like a grease ball in the sun.

Beauty Essentials 4

Next up is a CC Cream. Before I went to Thailand I was on a mission to achieve golden shimmery sun kissed skin. It didn’t really work out as planned but on my hunt, I did manage to bag The Body Shop’s new Instaglow CC cream.

I’m surprised at how much I actually loved using this as I’ve never believed in CC creams. However, I found it worked well to give me a more even skin tone, while looking quite natural, perfect for when you plan on lounging around the pool, but don’t want to go completely commando on the face.

Beauty Essentials 3

In the evening, I mixed the the CC cream with a dot of my usual foundation for fuller coverage, and set with my Bare Minerals powder.

When on holiday a highlight needed to accentuate your sun kissed glow! And it’s easily achieved with the perfect products and the right brush.

I hadn’t found the perfect highlight, before going to Thailand so I used a bunch of products to give me a nice shimmery glow anyway, which became my go to beauty finish.

Beauty Essentials 1
Fan brush and Makeup Bag gifted by Spectrum Brushes

SONY DSC
Just look at that highlight! I used a combination of Lush’s Feeling Younger Golden Highlight on my cheekbones, followed by Bobbi Browns golden shimmery eyeshadows.

My next beauty essential has to be a brow pencil. I was talking to one of my blogger compadres, Shannon Kara, and we both agreed that while foundation isn’t a must on holiday, having well-groomed fleeky eyebrows and a nice lip colour is an absolute must. While I was using my MAC eyebrow pencil, during my next getaway I will definitely be packing my magical Benefit brow productshave you read my review?

Beauty Essentials 2
I normally tidy up my eyebrows with my foundation, instead of concealer as it makes for less packing and I hate the halo effect round eyebrows.

As I previously said, I like to keep my makeup to minimum and being away in a hot country is the perfect opportunity to show you skin some TLC, so cleansing and moisturising products are much needed essentials. I always pack a charcoal face scrub by Garnier, as the fine exfoliants really get every inch of dirt off my face. I then moisturise my face with a light moisturiser – Drops of Youth from The Body Shop so my skin has a clean base for any products to go on if I choose to put on any makeup.

Beauty Essentails 5

When on holiday there’s no doubt you’ll probably go out on the town at least once, which is why a nice lippie and an eye shadow palette suitable for every occasion should be part of your beauty essentials. Keep things simple as no one has time to sweat off their whole face  – it’s really not a good look, but make it effective. I love packing my Ruby Woo as it screams sophistication and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a red lip?

SONY DSC

So there you have it – my holiday essentials. Simple yet effective. What are you beauty essentials? Leave a comment and let me know x

Don’t forget to check my girl – Lani Rae’s collab post all about fashion essentials too!

Brow Game Strong with Benefit

This is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there, I’ll tell you how…my brow game is now strong with Benefit *dab*

bene event
Precisely My Brow Pencil used on my brows for Not On The High Street Christmas in July event

So, last week I went to the Bloggers Hangout event and in the midst of doing my makeup my MAC eyebrow pencil ran out. FFS! Such convenient timing ey!

Has this ever happened to you before? I was literally in a state of panic, how could I go to an event with one eyebrow?! The search began for anything else that could possibly fill in my right brow.

After rummage around my makeup stash, I was sweating my already done makeup off, but I  found an alternative – my brow zing palette from Benefit. Hallelujah! I used to use this brow palette years ago, when bold brows started to become a thing, but kinda just discovered other things. I remembered I really liked it as it was so easy to use and I liked that it had both a wax and a powder.

Each brow looked slightly different, but I finished off, sealed my right brow with some hope and concealer and left for the event.

While I was out I knew that I needed another pencil, but of course there wasn’t a MAC store in sight, so I settled on Superdrug where I found a really good eyebrow pencil by L’oreal. I would have never thought to try such a product but I was actually surprised at how good the quality was, plus had a wax pencil on the other end and it was only £5 so I couldn’t go wrong. Or so I thought (btw. I am getting to the Benefit products lol)

I used the pencil about three times, before I had to sharpen it (why isn’t every eyebrow pencil self-sharpening?) When I started sharpening it, I didn’t stop, the pencil kept breaking. I literally had nothing left. Luckily the same day, ASOS (good ole asos) sent me a 20% discount code, and long story short I treated myself to a few Benefit products.

I don’t actually know why I stopped using the Brow Zing eyebrow palette, but this new Benefit eyebrow range has got me hooked again. They just do the most with their packaging and after reading plenty of reviews I decided to take the plunge.

I was a bit dubious with ordering an eyebrow pencil online as I didn’t know what colour to get- there are currently six shades to choose from, but after going back and forth for about an hour I chose- Dark 5 – which was a the perfect shade for me – Not too dark and not too ashy.

ben2

I ended up buying 3 cool brow products: Precisely My Brow Pencil, Goof Proof Brow Pencil and Ready Set Brow.

Once they arrived I so excited to open them up. Isn’t the packaging EVERYTHING? I love that they make creating the perfect brow a magical experience through the packaging alone.

ben3

ben4

ben5

Once taken out of the cardboard packaging I was left even more thrilled. The products just looked so pretty and sassy with its sleek silver finish – It left me wanting to do my eyebrows lol.

So far I’ve been really impressed with the quality of each product, although, I’ve never been disappointed with Benefit. My favourite product has to be Precisely My Brow Pencil, which was actually described as a pen on ASOS. I thought I’d prefer the Goof Proof Pencil but this one has a much smaller tip, that lets you create a precise brow shape. I’m so heavy handed so it suits me well as I initially used the Goof Proof, but when I too a step back from the mirror my brows looked way too bold.

ben7

After playing around with the two pencils, I would definitely say that the Precisely My Brow Pencil is my new go-to simply because I cant get too carried away with it, plus I think if you’re like me and still get your brows done, it will accentuate the shape more naturally.

benefit brows
Using Precisely My Brow Pencil

However, I would say the Goof Proof Brow Pencil is really nice to use as it has a angled tip, perfect for adding a sharp arch or a fluid curve to the brow. This pencil would be great for me if I’m going out and want to make a strong statement with a cool eye makeup look.

ben6

I also feel that the quality of the pencils are so much better for my skin than MAC’s eyebrow pencil. As I’ve got oily skin I feel MAC’s eyebrow pencils creamy consistency makes my eyebrows look shiny. However, although Benefits pencils have a nice consistency which allows them to glide over your brows easily, and when set with the Ready Set Brow gel it lasts all day, without smudging of sliding (even in hot weather)

I’ve never thought to use a brow gel, but after using the Ready Set Brow, I’ve seen the light. The gel is easily and neatly applied using a comb and once applied doesn’t go hard when it dries, which has always been a thought that’s turned me off.

Each pencil was around £18 on ASOS, which is quite steep, especially as MAC’s pencils can be bought for £15, but they can be bought at a cheaper price at QVC. Saying this I feel you get more for your money, as the pencil seems to be longer and you get a spooky at the end of them too – how thoughtful!

If you’re looking for a brow alternative, or wan a give the new Benefit brow range a go, I would highly recommend. Think of it as an investment in your brows lol.

Have you tried this range? What are your thoughts?

ben
