Pretty in Paris: My In-Flight Essentials

Happy New year guys!

It’s been a minute since my last blog, and so much has happened – Christmas, NYE antics (not so much in my case), plus going back to work – it’s definitely been a whirlwind. But as it’s the New Year, I’ve promised myself to have a fresh, new outlook on life and set myself a few resolutions too!

One major  resolution of mine is to travel even more than I did last year… and im off to a nice start, even if I do say so myself, as I’ll be jetting off to Paris tomorrow (yay me!).

As a result I teamed up with Tripping.com – a comparison site that help you find the perfect home/villa rentals abroad – to tell you all about what my-flight essential are, so keep reading to find out…

Mints – Currently in my handbag there are three different types of mints to choose from lol. I love having them handy as they’re just nice sweets to suck on, but they especially come in handy for on the plan as  I hate my ears popping 😖

Snacks– food is always an essential! When flying short haul flights food isn’t always available, so having something to munch on is a must, no-one wants to start their trip off #hangry do they. Pass me a bag of salt and vinegar crisps and I’ll be fine 😭

Hand sanitinser – I’m a city gal and hand santinzer is a must. I’ve literally just recovered from the norovirus, so I am not messing around with any germs coming into the New Year. When travelling abroad and even on public transport around London you just never know what you’ll have to encounter, so hand sanitiser is definitely an essential. Better to be safe than germy! 😂

Hand Moisturiser – in- flight air con is a MF so, i’ve packed my Kiehl’s Richly Hydrating Hand Cream in grapefruit- smells so lush! And it keeps my hands beautifully moisturised it’s defo a contender to my beloved – Lush Helping Hand

A Blanket Scarf – as its bitterly cold here in London and I’m sure it will be in Paris a blanket scarf just makes sense. I’ve had mine in tow since last October! I love a quick nap in-flight too (much to the annoyancenof my bf🙈) so a cosy scarf helps me wrap up and keep warm, plus you never know the air-con situ. Plus, if too hot in-flight it can double as a neck pillow!

Laura Mercier Setting Powder – Whenever I go on holiday I never usually wear much makeup in-flight, but as I’m off to Paris which is a very short haul flight I’ll be packing all my usual makeup essentials plus my new Laura Mercier translucent powder. This product is the bomb.com, it really helps my makeup stay in place and keeps the shine at bay after only one use. To be honest, I doubt I’ll actually use it as it’s THAT good but I like to keep it handy. 👸🏾💅🏾

Cards/ Netflix – I’ve got a thing with collecting playing cards from destinations I’ve visited. I love playing cards, as it was past time that still happens in my house. No matter who I’m travelling with, I make sure I have a pack handy. Plus it makes the flight go faster.  If I’m not playing cards I’m probably watching something I downloaded prior. Sidenote: Did you know you can now download shows on Netflix?! I’m loving Power at the moment!

Comfy Clothes – Going to the airport is an occasion in itself, but for me its all about being comfy, no matter how long the flight is. However, being the blogging queen I am, I love accessorising which can easily vamp up a really simple outfit.  I love to transform my jeans and jumper with a choker and covetable ring stack. Add some lippie and I’m good to go and looking like I was made for this jet-setting lifestyle 😜

MINI Lush Haul

Like many other beauty bloggers I’m a huge fan of Lush. I don’t often take baths – I’m more of a shower kind of girl, but when I do a gorgeous bath bomb is what I like to reach for, and Lush caters for just that, however, during my recent trip I picked up some goodies!

A few days ago, I headed into my local shopping centre for a little treat, I just felt that I needed some TLC and some ME time.

After a bit of aimless roaming, I passed Lush and the sweet scents caught me, I had to turn back.

I ended up spending a good hour and a half in store, with the loveliest Customer Assistant. It was her last day in store, but she made it so memorable for me. She spent so much time answering my questions, demonstrating new products on my skin, she was brilliant – I just love when I have a lovely in store experience, it really does make me wana SPEND!

When I entered, I knew I was in need of some hand cream. This time of year really tends to cause havoc for my skin,  not juts my face, but my hands and I hate having dry hands – its the absolute worst. I go through about 2 hand creams a month which is quite ridiculous, so I thought I’d see what lush had to offer. I began trying different creams and instantly knew I needed Helping Hand. This cream quickly sinks in and caters to hands that are always in sinks – even though my hands aren’t always in water, they feel like they are, so I felt like it was an obvious choice for me.

Packed with almond oil, cocoa butter and camomile, this cream really tackles the dry crusty areas, you know the bits in between the fingers and aims to soothe them, really moisturising, without leaving my hands oily or greasy – Instant Buy.

After trying it myself the lady in Lush came over, so I explained my dry hand woes and she took me over to the sink to really demonstrate how it worked.

She handed me this Blue salt scrub aka Rub Rub Rub, which I rubbed all over my hands. As I started to wash off the scrub under the tap, I could instantly feel the difference. My hands felt like butter! My hands have never felt like butter!

Another item added to the basket… sorry, but not really that sorry.

The lady then advised me to dab the excess water off my hand, so my hands retained a good amount of moisture, without too much excess. On one hand she gave me the Helping Hand hand cream, which felt oh soooo good. She left the other hand dry while she went to get another product.

Now, you may think I’m exaggerating, but if I leave my hands a second without creaming them after they’ve been in water my skin gets ashy and uncomfortably tight almost instantly, but after using Rub Rub Rub I genuinely felt moisturised.

When she returned, she came back with a body conditioner – Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner. This is heaven scent -like the play on words? Ha. It smells beautiful. Like roses and honey. She advised to put this on while in the shower and wash off, so it doesn’t leave a greasy residue – perfect when I’m running late to work.

After bagging 3 items I continued to roam around their cosmetics section, which I never knew they had, did you?

I was drawn to all their facial cleansers, but my purse was crying at this point but the lady was kind enough to give me a sample of Ultra Bland a gentle yet thorough cleanser which she recommended after I raved about Body Shop’s Camomile cleanser – and to be completely honest this works just as well and smells amazing, so i’ll definitely have to purchase next time.

We began just talking about makeup products… as you do, and I told her I use MAC’s strobe cream. After a little search she came back with Feeling Younger – what I feel is a more pigmented highlighter for darker skin tones – read my review.

After bagging a more than a few new items, I just knew I couldn’t leave without a bath treat, so I picked up their new Flowering Tea – a jasmine scented bath dunk… to subside my tea craving I was having by this point. I haven’t used it yet, but it looked great after a demonstration and it has glitter… how could I say no?

This was one of the best Lush experiences I’ve ever had, and really cannot wait to go back.

What Lush products have you been enjoying, or are there any you recommend? I would love to know x

Lush vs MAC – Battle of the Highlighters

So, I’m sure we’re all aware of the makeup trends such as strobing, contouring and most recently chroming and to be completely honest, I’m not a fan of them all, however, I do love a bit of strobing. I feel this makeup technique really accentuates my strong facial bone structure (I have high cheek bones) and overall creates a makeup look that glows, sparkles… and slays to the gods!

When I first heard of strobing I had to book myself a MAC makeup lesson to help me achieve a glowing look. The lady that was teaching me recommended MAC’s Strobing Cream – a luminous cream that highlights.  This cream truly does work to give your look a glowing luminous touch. You can use it under your makeup or mix it into your foundation and blend it into places that you want the light to catch – cheekbones, chin, eyebrow bone and down the centre of your nose.

While I don’t use it all the time, when I’m on a girls night out, it works a treat and gives your look that extra pizzaz!

I checked into LUSH to look around their new products (I had no idea they did cosmetics) the other day, and the customer assistant recommended a product called Feeling Younger after asking if I had heard of MAC’s strobing cream. She made me try it on, saying it was another alternative to the cream, and I was instantly impressed, so I took  tester home to try out with my makeup – and let me tell you it’s a strong contender in the highlighting game!

Lush’s Feeling Younger is highly pigmented, has more of a golden shimmer and is less pearlised compared to MAC’s strobing Cream, which has a more of a silver finish to it.

As you can see the two are completely different pigments so, I decided to do a look using the Lush’s Feeling Younger and I was pleasantly surprised.

SONY DSCLush really bought it’s A -game with this highlighter. It blended well with my foundation and was so easy to blend in on top of my foundation, allowing me to really show off and highlight my features. I also love that it has a golden matte shimmer, which I feel suits my dark skin tone a lot more that MAC’s strobe cream which is more of a silvery iridescent glow. What was an absolute plus, was that this product can be built upon, the more I put on the more shimmer was visible, which I don’t feel can be achieved with the Strobing Cream. I dont feel the image gives it justice, but I loved just how shimmery my highlights were.

On this occasion I feel Lush won the highlighting war, which I am completely surprised about as I’ve never tried anything from their cosmetic section, but I’m happy I did!

What do you think about this look? What’s your favourite highlighter and will you be trying Lush’s lush products? Let me know…
