Double Tap That: Five To Follow

Hey ya’ll,

I can’t lie, but right now I am loving Instagram, it’s my favourite app to scroll through, which is probably why I’ve been neglecting this blog🙈. Only God know how many times I scroll through Instagram a day, but I just can’t resist exploring amazing images and finding new people to follow.

Now I know there’s been a lot of controversy about Instas ever-changing and very annoying algorithms, like-bots, spam comments and all that malarkey, but let’s face it, we all love to double-tap that…

With Instagram being a MainStage for Influencers and bloggers to become recognised or as we all like to say – Instafamous, I’ve got more than a few favourites that I’d like to share, so let me show some love to…

The beauty of women is perfectly captured when Joey is behind the camera. His photos are magnetic, and his subjects are not only glamorous but real. Follow him on a journey to unlocking true beauty, and explore the rich velvety texture of the many shades of melanin. I literally cannot get enough of this guys images so, spam his comments so I can get a photo shoot with this guy PLEASE!

In My Sunday Best

It’s undeniable that Sade has a way with the camera. Perfectly portraying her love affair with vintage fashion her photos are infused with a nostalgic warm twist. I love that we get to see Sade’s confident and elegantly cool personality relayed through the lense too. With her good sense of fashion and great coffee spots what more could you want from life?

Asiyami Gold

If you have holiday blues, look away NOW.  Asiyami captures awe-inspiring images from her travels all over the world. Using natural backdrops, vibrant colours, colourful food and beautiful subjects she’s is dubbed as a visual storyteller. This girl is living life, all while looking like a melinated supermodel and I love double-tapping whenever she uploads.

ChanelCocoBrown

I’m back on my 3-4 times a week gym grind and as you may imagine, it’s way too easy to fall off, especially with all these food snaps. Nevertheless, I love searching hashtags like #fitness to keep me on the straight and narrow to achieving my body goals, but one person I always look to is Chanel. She is all types of body goals and I love that she takes us on her fitness journey that she has perfectly made her lifestyle, she’s the ultimate motivation for me, plus I love her clean and feminine feed.

TheSlumFlower

My girl Chidi is killing it! She oozes beauty and fearlessness and on the few occasions I met her she has been a positive energy that I can’t get enough of. Follow this beaut for encouraging hella funny quotes, fire selfies and the odd travel post. Love her.

I follow way too many creative Instgram pages to pay homage to, but these are the feeds are just a few that I’ve just kept on coming back to. Leave comment and let me know who you’ve been loving on Insta, so I can give them a nosy, also feel free to give me a follow x

5 Reasons Why I HATE Twitter Chats

After reaching my one year milestone on this blog a couple of weeks ago, I stupidly promised myself to join at least 2 twitter chats a week.

Let’s just all laugh together 😂

My advances to become a somewhat ‘better blogger’ wasn’t actually unachievable, but I’ve come to the realisation that I actually hate twitter chats (well, most of them anyway).

When I first started blogging Twitter chats were the bomb.com!

I would e-meet other bloggers, interact and find new blogs, as well as discover blogging events which definitely helped me network and ultimately turn my blog into what it is today, BUT, after being back on the twitter chats for just over a week, I’ve realised that my goal to join 2 twitter chats a week may have been a bit of a reach.

Let me tell you why…

  1. No shade, but there’s only so many times a year, never mind a week, where I can discuss my favourite disney movie. I get it, we all love disney and it’s a great past-time to re-live our awesome 90’s childhood, but I’m a grown ass 20 something year old woman who’s got shit going on. Let’s get real.
  2. The choice of topics is an issue. Blogging is so diverse – from the people to the subjects. I mean people blog about any and everything, so why do we always end up discussing the same topics and throwing around the same answers and buzz words? It’s like we know what others want to hear, what makes us sound good and what sounds a the right level of controversial. Let’s get real.
  3. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t been an active part of the twitter chat community for ages, but is it me or is everyone besties? Everyone has something witty to say, a sure-fire comeback. I can’t lie, it makes the chats fun and very interactive, but it just makes me wonder is it all real? Are you really as animated as that sassy GIF you just tweeted or are you sitting in bed with a straight face, going back and forth, just like me? Plus, we have the whole follow/unfollow debacle which just grinds my gears. Let’s get real.
  4. Everything moves so bloody quickly. I know, I know. I feel as though my inner-granny is taking over. Even as I type this I’m imagining an older version of myself walking across the TL with my zimmerframe, but I would love if Twitter slowed down, even by a milli-second. Like, I’m sure I’m the only person who answers a question forgetting to use the chat hashtag? 😪
  5. I never have enough time to dedicate a whole blessed hour to a twitter chat.

Don’t get me wrong guys, I do enjoy a few chats and I get that Twitter chats take a lot to run and host every week, but for me a lot of it is cliche, so… I’m revoking my earlier promise and will only be joining chats when I’m genuinely interested in, and not just because I said I would 😝.

We’re probably all as guilty as each other when it comes to these points (or nah), but maybe it’s time for a change?!

What chats do you enjoy joining and why, do you have any pet peeves when it comes to Twitter chats?

5 Podcasts you NEED to listen to

Hey guys,

I’m back in full force, and let me tell you…there’s reason for it!

Living with very limited internet connection for nearly 3 weeks has made me really… really value internet connection. I mean lets be fair… it practically rules our every second.

But, when it’s suddenly taken from your fingertips is it any wonder why we… or matter of factly speaking I was left not knowing what the hell to do with my time. It’s actually crazy how much my life is consumed by online shopping, blogging, social media and everything else that comes with owning a smartphone.

While my phone was practically out of service, I had to become creative with how I managed my ever depleting data (there’s just never enough is there?!) so instead of downloading movies on Netflix I decided to discover, subscribe and download different podcasts. (Just click on that little purple icon, you wont regret it)

Podcasts literally saved my sanity. I had no idea that podcasts were a thing (again) until Christine put me on to one, on our trip to Paris and it’s now become a personal fave.

Keep reading and let me fill you in on podcasts you NEED to listen to just because… or if you ever find yourself in your bedroom that doesn’t have a TV and no friends to call (Yes it was hell and some tears were shed but I’m seriously living for the moment when I can laugh at this 😫😂)

podcast7

The Read
This podcast is my absolute fave. If you love keeping up with music, pop culture, sipping and spilling tea, take some time out with the cool kids; Kid Fury and Crissle as they throw the utmost shade at celebs you love to hate. They literally make my Mondays worth living and have me dying with laughter at my desk and on my commute. Each episode lasts at least 2 hours but it’s still not enough.

Pandolly
I have been a fan of Pandora Sykes forever – she has the coolest blog and is Fashion Features editor for The Sunday Times Style. Little did I know, that she’s teamed up with her buddy and dating columnist Dolly Alderton to bring you feminist debates, news, and general girl talk without any limitations. If you ever wondered what privately educated women talk about, plug into Pandolly airwaves and be a fly on the wall for an hour or two.

podcast6

The Receipts
The ultimate girl talk. When I’m talking to my girls this is kinda what it sounds like. The Receipts podcast is hosted by four women from different walks of life who just happen to be friends. Controversial they may be, you can be sure to get the real from these ladies, who will have you nodding, chuckling and wanting more.

Champagne Room (available on soundcloud)
Please Urban Dictionary the name of this podcast and you’ll get the vibe lol. If you know you’re the bad and boujee type, the Champagne room is for you! The perfect evening podcast. Turn on when chilling at home, and get ready to turn up and these girls -will have you mmhmmm’ing in agreement.

Cut The Chat
OMG. Ever wondered what guys talk about in the barbershop? Check this podcast out! Hosted by four inner city men, you get to know a general consensus around hot topics like Chocolate City, music and more important hot topics like the recent inauguration. Please Check it out…

So there you have it. If you’re ever in need of a pick me up, plug into one of these podcasts and be entertained.

Many thanks to Starbucks for being the real MVP and providing me with free wifi during this tough time 😂

Perusing Paris:

I cannot believe it’s been over a week since my impromptu weekend away in (insert French accent)… Paris!

A girly trip away is sometimes, in fact always needed, and who better else to spend it with than the blogging gal pals… if you don’t know who I’m talking about check this post. I mean who else truly understands the art, and struggle, of capturing the perfect Instagram post? Only the blogging queens, that’s who! 😂

Our trip was short and sweet, but definitely a barrel of laughs. We fit so much in (thanks Chrissy) that I feel like I actually saw Paris and experienced a little bit of culture – although now that I think of it I didn’t try a croissant – major faux pas! 😱

Whether you’ve been to Paris once ,like me or more there’s so much to do and see. So if you’re planning a romantic trip to France with bae or simply want a have a girly weekend away with your besties, here are some places you should definitely and visit…

Louvre
We visited the Louvre on our first night and it was everything! I’ve always seen so many pictures of people doing the whole pinching the tip thing (lol) but to actually be there and take in the view was something else. We didn’t actually go inside, but just seeing the beauty of the architecture and surrounding buildings was enough, plus, guess I can explore further next time 👍🏾

paris3

paris1

Eiffel Tower
Who goes to Paris and doesn’t see the Eiffel Tour?! Like, seriously it is amazing and steeped in history. Did you know it’s re-painted every 7 years and it takes 60 tonnes of paint to cover it? Absolutely crazy! It is recommended that you see at least once in daylight and again at night because it’s truly spectacular, and you really get to see its personality and detail in different light.

paris2

Notre Dame
I can’t believe I got to visit the backdrop to one of my favourite Disney films 🐵. To be honest I was left a little disappointed. I don’t know what it was but I thought there would be more. Nevertheless, the cathedral is beautiful and there are plenty of places to eat nearby.

paris20

paris10

Sidenote: If you have the chance to visit don’t let any of the artists outside draw a caricature of you, absolute waste of time and money – if you saw my instastory you know what I’m on about 👀

paris14

Champs de Elysee
There are no words to describe how charming and beautiful this avenue is. I felt so Parisian just walking up to the Arc de Triomphe. There’s only one way to see the Champs de Elysee and it’s at night – definitely the perfect destination for a romantic late night stroll.

paris12

paris17

River Cruise and River Seine
If you love to immerse yourself in local history, I would really recommend taking a cruise down River Seine, which is practically next to Notre Dame, so not far to walk. The hour long trip was only €12 and it took us past really cool landmarks  It’s so picturesque and definitely worth the trip if you want to see a lot in one go. Before you take a boat trip, don’t forget to visit one of the many love lock bridges and attach a lock that’ll be there forever… or at least until they take it down – One bridge has collapsed 11 times due to the weight of locks.

Places to Eat

When you go to France it’s only right that you eat right too so hit up these places.

Street Vendor Crepes

PaperBoy Paris

paris16

Paris was such a dream. So multicultural and historical. Exploring in -4 degree temperatures is not exactly my ideal holiday, but definitely a trip to remember. I can only imagine just how much the beauty of the city shines through in the summer months.

Paris seems like a distant memory but, 2017 is all about new adventures and travels so I can’t wait to share where I’m off to next…

Have you been to Paris, what was your favourite thing to do? Also, what’s your favourite French word?

Box Park Croydon + MEATLiquor

Who’s got those midweek blues?

I know I do. I had an amazing weekend and I’m looking forward to this one coming. Not that I did anything spectacular, but it was super chilled – I actually had a well overdue lie in on Saturday – and even ventured out to my hometown, Croydon.

Whenever I mention Croydon to people, they’re never really sure what it has to offer, except the very drab, Whitgift centre *yawn*

Very recently though, it is undergoing a facelift and last week opened its very Box Park.

ml6

Now this is a BIG thing, almost revolutionary for drab ole Croydon. If you didn’t know, the only other place in London to have a Box Park is Shoreditch.

ml11

I really didn’t know what to expect and I may be a little biased, but it is 100x better than the original Box Park. There’s way more eateries, cool coffee places, my favourite donut place called DUMDUM’s and a huge seating area for everyone to come and eat drink and chat together – overall it just seems like a great chill spot… and it’s right on my doorstep.

During my visit with my dad and sister, we decided to grab a bite to eat. We wanted to explore somewhere new and came across MEATliquor and as it was brimming with people, it was an immediate yes.

ml

ml1

With a 30 minute waiting time to be seated, we headed to the bar and ordered some cocktails.

ml3

I didn’t know much about the restaurant but I must admit, their cocktails were really good, for just a burger joint. They had a good variety to choose from, but what I didn’t like is that they were all named with a dark twist  – how does Fallen Angelita sound to you 😖 lol #notfeelingit

And after looking around it all made sense. To me the restaurant decor was meant to resemble something between purgatory and a butchers. There were skulls and bones painted on the walls, red spotlights and those plastic hanging flaps to replace doors (have no idea what they’re called). So, if you’re not into this kinda thing, it’s defo not for you (and I don’t blame ya).

ml4

30 minutes seemed to whizz by because before we knew it we were seated and our food was in front of us. Served on a big yet organised platter it was time to chow down!

ml7

As you can see we actually went in with the food and while it wasn’t the most succulent burger, we chose a mixture of what they had to offer.

The mixtures of flavours and foods was a great twist on popular greasy American food with a soul food flavourful spin.

ml10

I went for a bacon cheese burger, hippie chips (sautéed onions and melted cheesy sauce on chips) and Onion rings. We also had another side of chips with blue cheese 😷, deep fried mac and cheese (the treadmill is calling me lol).

ml8

ml9

ml10

To be honest the food did hit the spot, but I wouldn’t say its the best there is to offer.

It was genuinely a nice day out with the family, but I personally wouldn’t go back to MEATliquor as it’s just not my scene. I will, however, be going back to Box Park this Friday!

Have you tried MEATliquor? What’s your verdict?

Living the Dubai Life

I’ve been procrastinating on this post for the last two weeks, for two reasons.
1. I cannot believe I’m back to reality.
2. It was the most surreal holiday experiences I’ve ever had.

So let me start from the beginning.

As a birthday treat my parents paid for my holiday to Dubai – I know right, so lucky!

My family and I went for 5 days (which in my opinion, is a great amount of time to do everything) and stayed at the Movenpick JLT hotel – a beautiful hotel with an infinity pool and around 30 mins from Dubai Mall.

I really don’t know where to start, so I thought I’d dedicate this post to answering some the most common questions I’ve had from friends:

How hot was it?

Let me start by telling you it was HOT! I don’t know why I was so surprised as we did actually go in August – one of the hottest months in Dubai with temperatures reaching over 50 degrees – so yes, it was very hot.

However, it wasn’t unbearable. On the day we landed, I didn’t think I’d be able to survive. As soon as you go outside from the air conditioned airport the heat hits you right in the face. It’s a very dry, thick heat but you do acclimatise to it pretty quickly, plus everywhere has air con 😖

After 2 days feeling the heat was glorious, had me feeling like some melanin goddess all day every day… just call me the bronzed goddess!

What was it like?

Dubai is undeniably beautiful. Everything is so big and futuristic. The technology is so ahead of the ‘western world’ that its skyline looks like something out of a sci-fi movie… an urban metropolis.

The traditional food is tha bomb and the people are so friendly. I cannot wait to plan another trip to be honest!

Was it expensive?

Hell yes! I wouldn’t advise anyone going to Dubai, especially for 5 days without money, not that you would go away without any funds, but you get what I mean, it was expensive, and while we were over there, we learned that the Brexit results had made currency exchange worse.

In saying that, Dubai has such an allure and charm, that you don’t even mind spending and splurging that little bit extra, because everything is so magnificent. The Emerati people know how to do it BIG.

What’s there to do apart from shop?

First of all the malls are insane, and I wouldn’t blame anyone who just goes there to shop, because it’s LIT.

The malls over there are 1000x better than UK’s Westfields, during our time there, we visited twice and we didn’t even cover half of the mall.

Other than shopping though, there’s so much else to do, like visiting one the world’s biggest water theme parks, driving through the crazy sand dunes and exploring the views from the highest point in the world -The Burj Khalifa.

BUT, I’ll go into that on my next post, so stay tuned!

Is the culture strict?

I was so nervous to go to Dubai, because of what I had heard about it’s strict rules on how females should dress etc, but honestly I had nothing to worry about.

I would say as long as you are in the city and in areas where there are other tourists, you can dress very laid back, and could to the mall in shorts and a cami. But, I think it just comes down to showing respect and not showing too much skin.

If you decide to go out of the tourist areas, carrying a light scarf to throw around your shoulders is fine too. It’s all about being respectful.

Would I go back?

Errrrrm. YES! Visiting Dubai has been nothing but a dream.

I’m sure I’ve left loads out, so check out a few of my pics from this vacay and stay tuned for my next post all about the top 5 things you should do in Dubai!

23 Things I’ve Learned In 23 Years

It’s been so, so, soooo long since I last blogged – it’s September already and there’s only 16 weeks until christmas (how crazy is that!)

Although I’ve been away for the majority of August, there has been good reason for it – It was my birthday month and boy did I enjoyyyy… I was insanely spoilt so i’ll be sure to share soon.

But, more recently I’ve been in reflective mood, enjoying the people around me, and the experiences/ lifestyle I’ve been fortunate enough to have, which is why I think actually noting down 23 life lessons – one for every year I’ve been alive – will help me remember what’s actually important in life, and perhaps help younger females out there that come across this post somehow.

23 things I’ve learned in 23 years (in no particular order):

  1. Failure is necessary. I think everyone says this, but no one knows why failure is actually necessary. When I was younger, I was quiet academic, always on the straight and narrow and never really felt any failure or rejection until I finished uni. I searched for nearly a year with many #FAILS in the process but it was so necessary because it made me work harder and really appreciate what I did get.
  2. Scrutiny is necessary. Just like failure, you need to experience scrutiny as well as constrictive criticism to move forward and better yourself.
  3. Learn to live below your means. This point has never been more relevant in my life, especially when things like buying my own house and getting a better car become more of a priority, it’s never been more important to save, even if it’s just a little every month, in order for me invest in things that matter in the grand scheme of things.
  4. Buy experiences, not things. When you work and you can afford to buy things yourself, you soon realise, experiencing things and travelling takes precedent over owning the latest pair of trainers. After all memories last a lifetime.
  5. Avoid trends. As far as I’m concerned trends are a waste of time and money. I have learned to invest in things that I genuinely like.
  6. Not everyone will be there for you. When you go through real tests in your life you realise who’s actually there for you, and who makes time to check up on you. Sometimes it’s a harsh but necessary wake up call on who you need to cut #CutIt
  7. Keep your head up. As a black female, especially over the last year with all the madness happening throughout the world, I’ve learned how important it is to keep my shoulders back and head up, no matter if I’ve got an unusual hairstyle, rocking an au natural face or weird ensemble.
  8. Do what you want. Life is way to short. Don’t worry what other people will think, as long as you’re safe and responsible, live life and do what you want #YOLO (what happened to that yolo)
  9. Speak up! Never shy away from voicing what you actually believe in, no matter how daunting – the feeling of keeping quiet is more disappointing when you look back.
  10. Never accept bad treatment.
  11. Love yourself.
  12. Consistency is key. I think I’ve mentioned this in a previous post before, but being consistent will help you get to where you want to be quicker. Whether it’s in blogging or at the gym – keep at it.
  13. Be a ‘Goal Digger’ – If you been on my insta, I recently posted this quote with a somewhat motivational message. Don’t rely on anyone else to gain success, be a goal digger and get’cho goals!
  14. You are a queen. #MelaninGoddess
  15. Hustle Hard. No one will hand you what you think you deserve, so hustle… HARD!
  16. You can always rely on family. I know this may not be completely true for everyone as every family is different, but I’m sure everyone has at least one person that’s so close they’re practically family whom you can rely on. Having a ride or die is the best.
  17. The world is not fair. Point blank, but what are you doing to make it better?
  18. Look after your relationships. Whether romantic, family or a friendship, look after the relationships that are important to you. Relationships are so fragile and it’s so common that if you get into a romantic relationship, your friendships can take a back seat, but it really doesn’t have to be either or – just be better at time management and care about those close to you.
  19. Parents are always right. A lot of mistakes I’ve made could have all been avoided if only I had listened to my parents. They can be annoying at times, but they are usually right – parent’s intuition and experience is a crazy thing.
  20. Live in the moment. (see no.8)
  21. Keep your circle tight. Not everyone is your friend. There have been so many people that I thought were for me, only to find them bitch about me, take ideas and pass them as their own and everything else, so keep your circle tight.
  22. Keep moving forward. Never become stagnant, no matter how hard life gets, as long as you’re still breathing (Have you seen the Revenant?) you can keep going.
  23. Life’s too short to be unhappy. Stuck in a dead end job? Have a lifelong dream of working for yourself? Want to travel the world? Whatever it is that you think will truly make you happy – do everything in your power to achieve it, even when fear tries to hold you back. You don’t want to look back and regret staying put.

So, there are my pearls of wisdom, hope you enjoyed and make sure to stay tuned for my next post all about my trip to Dubai!

Would you rather? | The Beauty Tag Edition

Everyone has played Would you rather…? at some point in their life. I’ve always chickened out when it comes to me answering any type of embarrassing question, but as I’ve been seeing this beauty tag doing it’s rounds on the blogs, I thought why not give it a go, some of you guys answers are sooo funny! I’ve loved reading people’s tag, so I hope mine are just as entertaining for ya…

1.Would you rather wear foundation that’s five shades too light or foundation that’s five shades too dark?

I would definitely wear a foundation that’s five shades too dark. I would much more prefer being darker than what I am, than trying to be lighter, plus, I really don’t think anyone would notice – My lipgloss be poppin’ and my melanin on fleek!

2. Have one eyebrow for a week, or apply lipstick to the outside of your lips, clown style for a week?

I actually LOL’d when I saw this question. Let’s be honest, it would be one hell of an embarrassing week if I picked either, but I think I’d rather have one eyebrow. Can you imagine the looks I’d get with lipstick applied outside my already full lips. Nah mate, I’ll pass.

3.Would you rather wear one lip colour for the rest of your life, or wear one hair colour for the rest of your life?

This one’s easy. One hair colour. After all the trouble I’ve had with my hair and trying to colour it, I’d gladly take one even hair tone any day #sadtimes

4.Would you rather have free shopping spree in Boots or have a free shopping spree in MAC?

Is this even a question? Boots! Boots has to be everyone’s choice. They have a diverse range of makeup brands that I can experiment with. Plus, I’m not here for the rudeness you often get in MAC.

5.Would you rather sneeze every time you put on mascara or always have lipstick on your teeth?

Haha. This had me in deep thought. It’s a painful choice but I go for sneeze every time I put on mascara. I have OCD when it comes to mine and others teeth. It’s so cringe when I see things stuck or in other peoples teeth. Like when’s the right time to say – ‘oh, you’ve got something there’ -AWKWARD

6.Would you rather be stuck with the same makeup forever OR be stuck with the same clothes forever?

If I perfect my ideal everyday makeup look, I’d gladly stick with the same makeup forever, but I’m always at a loss for what to wear even when I’m chilling at home, so I’d much rather be able to buy new clothes when I want.

7.Would you rather have your favourite eye shadow palette smash on the floor or have your favourite lipstick discontinued?

I have a serious love for my Tarte In Bloom 2 palette right now and if that broke I’d genuinely be devastated – I recently had a near miss. The palette is too nice (and expensive) for it to just shatter. I’ll rather have my favourite lippie discontinued – there’s a dupe somewhere out there.

8.Would you rather always have your makeup look like it does at the end of the night or do your makeup in bad lighting?

I’ll take a pass on my sweaty, shiny, end of night face and do my makeup in bad lighting. I kinda already do that, my bedroom has very little natural light.

9. If you had $1000 to spend, would rather spend it all on makeup OR on clothes?

Clothes, more specifically a designer bag, which clothes my arm… no?

10.Would you rather shave your eyebrows and never have them OR sharpie them in every day?

Sharpie all the way. Ain’t nobody got time for NO eyebrows. If I got a fine point brown sharpie, I’m sure I could nail light strokes and perfect a fleecy eyebrow

If you liked, I tag you! See you on my next one x

Weekly Rundown #2

Hey y’all,

I’m back for the second week with my weekly rundown. It’s been a busy week for me personally with the blog, with work and in the news, and even as I write this, I’m in the midst of my family celebrating my sisters belated birthday – (she’s really milking this 16th birthday business isn’t she!)

So, without further ado, here’s what’s caught caught my eye in the news (I’m done with Brexit btw):

So, sadly a few days ago the world woke up to the terrible news of Instanbul‘s terror attack. I’m really just speechless, as it’s quite scary how frequently these things are happening, but all we can do is send positivity towards Instanbul at the moment.

On to a lighter topic, last week was the BET awards (I still haven’t watched it 🙈) but I HAVE seen bae’s… ugh I mean, Jesse Williams, amazing, heartfelt speech – Check it out!

If you’ve read my post about my lifestyle changes, you would know I’m all about staying happy and laughing at LEAST 5 times a day – so if you’re like me and love Kevin Hart, you’ll appreciate this, if you havent seen it already. – Kevin Hart & Dwayne Johnson Impersonate Each Other

Lastly, I read a very interesting and quite disturbing article from Broadly, that I thought I’d share with you all – Why cant I consent to sex with my brother?

I hope you all have a great Sunday, and let me know if you’ve found any cool articles for me to add to my reading list too!

My Colourpop Catastrophe + Haul!

This sudden burst of sunshine here in the UK is giving me all types of lyf right now, and when the sun is out and my playlist is poppin’, I love to dress up in maxi dress, put my hair in a bun and make sure my make up is looking fleeky.

Wearing makeup in the sun can be a tricky art to master, which is why I like to keep it tres simple with minimalistic base, a pop of colour on the lip and an optional cat eye depending on how high the pollen count is, so everything on my face is kind of a simplified version of my February Face, except what’s on my lips – I’ve turned to colourful side and been sporting Colourpop Cosmetics!

Since immersing myself into the world of beauty blogging, I’ve heard loads of reviews about Colourpop. I had never heard about it before I began blogging, so I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about. The only knowledge I had about Colourpop is that You Tuber -itsmyrayeraye, worked on a collaboration with them and she always mentioned them in her videos – her lips are great too!

After perusing around their hundreds of lipsticks and eye shadows, I was sold. What was not to love, they have an insanely vast collection of colours and finishes and they are so affordable, it was hard to keep control. I decided to treat myself to a few Kaepop products too, as I just love Karrueche’s style and beautiful makeup looks.

colourpop1
Colours from left to right: Kaepop Beverly, Kaepop Wilshire, Kaepop Crenshaw & Kaepop Sunset Blvd

Swatches of each eye shadow. I love that this quad has a mixture of shimmery shadows and more matte bases, which will compliment each other when blended together. Also super pigmented which is always a plus!

I picked out three ultra matte lip products in StingRaye, Bad Habit and Rooch, one Lippie Stix in Lumiere and the Kaepop eyeshadow quad,  but after adding them all to my basket, I found they didn’t ship to the UK 😩.

After reading some blogs on how to get Colourpop the the UK, I knew it was possible to get the products out here, so I decided that the easiest way to get my goodies delivered was by courier. Many blogs recommended Borderlinx, so I went with this, but long story short, it was more money than it was worth.

If you’re in the UK, you cannot order straight from the Colourpop website, so what I had to do was order via Borderlinx, suing their Personal Shopper service. It was really simple and all you have to do is get the names of all the items you want and send them across with the price, so they can order it for you, however, they charge 5% of whatever the total of your order. My order came to about £30 which wasn’t bad at all, so I went ahead.

I thought this extra charge was a bit of a cheek, but it was only 5% so what the heck. Ha! how wrong I was. After a few days I received confirmation of my order, which would then be sent to borderlinx and then be sent to me, or so I thought. Once it was at borderlinx, I received another email saying I had to pay for shipping to the UK. Whut?! Little did I know shipping cost near £60!

This is where I became Thrifty McThrift, there was just no way I was spending more on shipping than what the actual products were worth. I decided to leave them there until I found a discount code. Discount codes are actual life savers, I always check for them before I buy full price items lol – I know I cant be the only one, there are just too many deals to be had out there.

After waiting about a month and a half for my products, I finally got them. The packaging was so cute and they also left me a little note, which I felt added a nice personal touch.

As you probably know from reading previous posts I am a sucker for lip products point blank, but I’m also  a sucker for matte lippies, and after many fiasco’s of trying to find the perfect matte formula for me, I think Colourpop have won my love.

The formulas are insane. They don’t feel papery but rather nourishing and they actually dry 100% matte and don’t budge once applied. However, I would say, before applying it is important to prep your lips – exfoliate and moisturise. Once you’ve done this, you’re ready to go.

I am really happy with my Colourpop order. I’m obsessed with these matte lipsticks and the eyeshadows look really pigmented too so watch out for a makeup look on the blog soon!

I also love that Colourpop team up with bloggers and come up with cool colours that we can experiment with, while also display swatches on their website on different skin tones (every makeup brand needs to be doing this), it really does make shopping easier.

In the future I will order more Colourpop goodies, but I don’t think I will use Borderlinx again, simply because of how much it cost to get just a few items. So if any of you beauty bloggers have ordered Coloupop to the UK using an affordable courier, please let me know!!!

I hope you enjoyed, and let me know if you’ve tried any Colourpop makeup treats for yourself, my fave lip colour is Rooch so far, it’s my go to matte lip product and I don’t care that it’s now hot, I will rock this all throughout the summer, as it looks banging on my brown skin *cue India Arie*
