My Caribbean Adventure: 2 Weeks in Jamaica

Jamaica seems like a very distant memory right now, and all I keep thinking about is how much I was enjoying lifeย ๐Ÿ˜’๐Ÿ’šโค๏ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›.

My two week adventure in Kingston was definitely one to remember. Split into two parts, I was able to see theย real Jamaica and experience its unforgettable people and culture, as well the perfectly-packaged tourist ready version of the island.

Week 1

As mentioned in my previous blog, this was my first trip to Jamaica. Kingston isย where my grandma grew up, where my dad visited when he was younger, so I was more than excited to experience what they had always talked about.

‘Uppa country’ as locals like to say, is where I called home for the first seven days. (Funnily enough when I got back to the UK I learned that my grandma actually grew up on the same road as where I was staying.ย Coincedence much?!) Beautiful views, windy country roads, fresh food, is all what consumed my time.

No internet, no TV, just living simply. To some this may sound like hell, but in all honesty it was a relief. Detoxifying even. This is what going away is all about (for me anyway) and it was lovely not to have any distractions and to simply chat, listen, learn and enjoy life.

The week now seems like a blur, I guess the saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ is true. The cool late nights playing dominoes or dancing merged into the days where I sat in the sun drinking bag juice. I felt like this is what life is meant to be like 100% of the time – no time keeping, just taking the time to have fun and be.

Week 2

After enjoying a week with family, it was time to move to our airbnb.

Now, can I just take a moment to praise how convenient and affordable airbnb is in Jamaica. We found some beautiful gems to rent, but, settled for an apartment opposite the Bob Marley museum. Super convenient, modern and it even had a pool which we never actually used, but it was nice to have the option, especially as we were hours away from any natural beach.

Being in Jamaica was a gave me nothing short of a whirlwind of emotions, but ultimately it taught me to be confident… unapologetically, inside and out. It’s a mantra that many of us talk about and try to omit, but honestly speaking I didn’t feel conscious about myself, about my weight, about my race and it was lovely to just live life. Maybe this was downย I to me being in my natural habitat, being comfortable in my surroundings, and in my skin, it was a feeling that I surely will never forget.

We most definitely caught the beach bug and headed even further to Ocho Rios – Turtle Tower beach the day after too.

Pretty in Paris: My In-Flight Essentials

Happy New year guys!

It’s been a minute since my last blog, and so much has happened – Christmas, NYE antics (not so much in my case), plus going back to work – it’s definitely been a whirlwind. But as it’s the New Year, I’ve promised myself to have a fresh, new outlook on life and set myself a few resolutions too!

One major ย resolution of mine is to travel even more than I did last year… and im off to a nice start, even if I do say so myself, as I’ll be jetting off to Paris tomorrow (yay me!).

As a result I teamed up with Tripping.com – a comparison site that help you find the perfect home/villa rentals abroad – to tell you all about what my-flight essential are, so keep reading to find out…

Mints – Currently in my handbag there are three different types of mints to choose from lol. I love having them handy as they’re just nice sweets to suck on, but they especially come in handy for on the plan as ย I hate my ears popping ๐Ÿ˜–

Snacks– food is always an essential! When flying short haul flights food isn’t always available, so having something to munch on is a must, no-one wants to start their trip off #hangry do they. Pass me a bag of salt and vinegar crisps and I’ll be fine ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Handย sanitinser – I’m a city gal and hand santinzer is a must. I’ve literally just recovered from the norovirus, so I am not messing around with any germs coming into the New Year. When travelling abroad and even on public transport around London you just never know what you’ll have to encounter, soย hand sanitiser is definitely an essential. Better to be safe than germy! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hand Moisturiser – in- flight air con is a MF so, i’ve packed my Kiehl’s Richly Hydrating Hand Cream in grapefruit- smells so lush! And it keeps my hands beautifully moisturised it’s defo a contender to my beloved – Lush Helping Handย

A Blanket Scarfย – as its bitterly cold here in London and I’m sure it will be in Paris a blanket scarf just makes sense. I’ve had mine in tow since last October!ย I love a quick nap in-flight too (much to the annoyancenof my bf๐Ÿ™ˆ) so a cosy scarf helps me wrap up and keep warm, plus you never know the air-con situ. Plus, if too hot in-flight it can double as a neck pillow!

Laura Mercier Setting Powder – Whenever I go on holiday I never usually wear much makeup in-flight, but as I’m off to Paris which is a very short haul flight I’ll be packing all my usualย makeup essentialsย plus my new Laura Mercier translucent powder. This product is the bomb.com, it really helps my makeup stay in place and keeps the shine at bay after only one use. To be honest, I doubt I’ll actually use it as it’s THAT good but I like to keep it handy. ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’…๐Ÿพ

Cards/ Netflix – I’ve got a thing with collecting playing cards from destinations I’ve visited. I love playing cards, as it was past time that still happens in my house. No matter who I’m travelling with, I make sure I have a pack handy. Plus it makes the flight go faster. ย If I’m not playing cards I’m probably watching something I downloaded prior. Sidenote: Did you know you can now download shows on Netflix?! I’m loving Power at the moment!

Comfy Clothesย – Going to the airport is an occasion in itself, but for me its all about being comfy, no matter how long the flight is. However, being the blogging queen I am, I love accessorising which can easily vamp up a really simple outfit. ย I love to transform my jeans and jumper with a choker and covetable ring stack. Add some lippie and I’m good to go and looking like I was made for this jet-setting lifestyle ๐Ÿ˜œ
